The idea of the story was interesting, the execution was so painful. I don't have patients or time for someone that always knocks them selves down. If you keep making the same mistake over and over then maybe you should be out of the gene pool. The main character does all the above as if it was his mission in life. After all that the end was very week. The best part of the story was Linton he told a bad story very well. Normally I would not have listened all the way through, it was the superb narration that keep me involved, however a bad story is always a bad story. What would be kool is to be able to pick the story and then pick who narrates the story, JP Linton will be right there with Allyson Johnson.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

My first choice for books is space opera science fiction, David Weber, John Ringo... Robert Crais has opened the door for Mystery/Detective/Suspense. I love that the book is written from both Scott's (the cop) and Maggie's (the dog) POV. It sounds cheesy but Robert Crais pulls it off. Actually I liked Maggie more than Scott, he could be whiny at times. My wish is that Robert makes this into a series, I wait for the book 2.

They were the young ones, the bright ones, the ones with the dreams. From the Nazi-prowled wastes of North Africa to the bloody corridors of Europe, they honorably answered the call. War - it was their duty, their job, their life. They marched off as boys and they came back - those who made it - as soldiers and professionals forged in the heat of battle....

I read these book when I was a young private in the Patricia's. I read them as fast as I could and read them all. Actually I read all the military books Griffin put out. I put off buying these audio books because I was afraid they might turn out as bad as Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity. I read that book multiple times and jumped at the audiobook when became available. I found out that some books shouldn't be narrated, and the narrator is as important as the author, The Bourne Identity is a case in point.

I was afraid this series was going to be the same, but bought The Lieutenants when it went on sale. I ended up listening to it straight through, and then bought all the Brotherhood of War books. The narration brings these book to life, I don't what else to say other than Eric G. Dove is in the ranks of Allyson Johnson, LJ Ganser, Stefan Rudnicki, Marc Vietor, William Dufris, and Mark Boyett. If you like military stories, historical fiction then you should enjoy this series.

The Charisian Empire, born in war, has always known it must fight for its very survival. What most of its subjects don’t know even now, however, is how much more it’s fighting for. Emperor Cayleb, Empress Sharleyan, Merlin Athrawes, and their innermost circle of most trusted advisers do know. And because they do, they know the penalty if they lose will be far worse than their own deaths and the destruction of all they know and love.

David has taken the first two books in the Honor Harrington series and stretched it out to five books, so far, and at the rate things are going, they may never get off Safehold. It's like David Weber is telling the story in real time. I am so glad that I have read the Honor Harrington series first. If I had read these books first I probably would not buy another David Weber book and that would have been bad. I would have returned this book except Audible does not take book reviews from people who no longer have the book in their library.
If you are the type of person who wants to know what it is like to ride over every rock in the road, then this series may be for you. If you want action then not so much.

Peril and strife strike on a double front for Honor Harrington and company. After a brutal attack on the Manticoran home system, Honor Harrington and the Star Kingdom she serves battle back against a new, technologically powerful, and utterly nefarious enemy. And as if that weren’t task enough, Honor must also face down a centuries-old nemesis in the crumbling, but still mighty, Solarian League.

The only thing that could make them better is if I could forget the entire series, so I could read them all over again for the first time.

The invaders are coming; the Posleen, a seemingly unstoppable horde who have conquered one star system after another, literally feeding on their conquests. Earth's dubious allies, the Darhel, have given the humans a number of highly-advanced technological devices, including a process for rejuvenating the aged, including trained and proven soldiers who otherwise would be too old to fight. Rejuvenation may give a critical edge, since to survive, the Earth must use every resource at hand.

The idea of getting very bad people to take on even worse people is always a good story line to me. Not using all the Gal Tech was a great twist. Not every bad person is all bad, and not every good person is all good. John Ringo's politics don't shine through as they do in other of the series. Survival cancels out programming.
    John, write Back to Baton.

Joe is not a Prince Roger, a Tyler Vernon or an Honour Harrington.
Liam Owen did a standup job narrating the book, maybe that is why Joe annoyed me so much. I could see him at his winy snivelling worst, with a few moments that could have been great.

David was caught in the middle of the city when the zombie outbreak started. His wife and daughters were at home, stranded on the roof as zombies waited below. He would have to fight through hordes of undead, merciless other survivors, and a series of death defying stunts to get home. However, even if he makes it there, how can he be sure they're safe?

Zombie books are my third choice on fiction, there are a lot of good ones out there and I have a lot of them in my library. I started listening and it lasted about 30 minutes. Brian sounded like he was just reading it from a piece of paper for the first time. Compared to L.J. Ganser, Allyson Johnson, or Mark Boyett, this guy needs to practice for many hours, or it could be the director that is failing. That could be, because every book as a different narrator and one has a hockey sock full. I'm glad I didn't pay for this book, I would be hard pressed to keep it just to write a review.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

I hate giving this book such a bad review. Almost all of his other works I have listened to multiple times. The Hot Gate series is some of his best. The Aldenata series are also great. The Prince Roger series with David Weber is outstanding. This one I tried twice to get through it, but this book is good story wrapped around his politics, and he isn't even correct on some of the things he says. If he kept the preaching to the level in the Troy Rising series then this would be another 5 stars all around, as it is the only good part is the outstanding performance by Dan Miller. John Ringo is capable of amazing story telling, I wish him to get back to it.
It is really to bad you can't write a review after returning a book, because I would return this one.

Twenty years ago, it was as if someone turned on a light. The future blazed into existence with each deliberate word that William Gibson laid down. The winner of Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards, Neuromancer didn't just explode onto the science fiction scene - it permeated into the collective consciousness, culture, science, and technology.Today, there is only one science fiction masterpiece to thank for the term "cyberpunk," for easing the way into the information age and Internet society.

I listened for the first 4 hours, and I was getting upset, because I just don't get it. I read the other reviews and was starting to think it was me. I finally figured it out, I don't care for this kind of science fiction. I like space wars, strong lead characters not idiots. I like Honour Harrington, Prince Roger, Jack Black. I only wish I had listened to it sooner so I could get a refund on it. However Audible doesn't let you do a review on book you no longer own. I think that is a real weakness of the audible system. There is probably a few people out there who are like me, but have sent the book back. Good for you.
