I also adore SEP. She always has witty lines and the dialogue between characters is often fast paced and cheeky. This book, however, lacked that. I simply could not like the characters. The narration was well done, I liked how distinct she made each voice/character. Those musical interludes drove me absolutely insane. I cannot see the purpose they served other than making me think I had hit a button on my ipod that made the audiobook skip. I still love SEP, this just wasn't her at her best. Match Me If You Can and Natural Born Charmer are both winners though.
She read every single line like it was a one-liner joke. It was unbearably annoying. I will follow this series, but in book form.
I wasn't bored for an instant. I LOVE this series but I was actually a bit put off when I saw it was another Elena/Raphael story. I was really hoping for a story about another one of the seven so I put off buying this story. I had it in my head that I would be bored with another installment of these two, but I was very, very wrong. The story is face paced. The tension of the situation is really well done. I really like how she doesn't try to "sell" you on the bond between Elena and Raphael, she simply develops it.
The last 45 minutes. Without giving any spoilers, I'll just say that the additions at the end are something I'm very interested to see developed.
This is one of my most enjoyed audiobooks in some time - and I generally enjoy all my audiobooks. All of the characters are likeable, and as opposed to some reviews, I did not find the heroine to be at all ungrateful or whiney. Instead, I found myself really respecting her - there were no cringe moments where you just wish the heroine would be a little smarter, a little less hysteric or more willing to stand up for herself. Also, the male lead - was so incredibly wonderful. He seems someone that is willing to learn, despite his age and power - he takes everything in and tries his best to understand how it applies to Grace, himself and their growing relationship. Just a truly enjoyable listen.
I fell in love with this series, so yes, I'd still listen, just because I'm invested in the characters, but Rachel is starting to wear on my nerves a bit. The performance was fantastic - though I was a little confused. Did Pierce have an irish accent and then not have an irish accent?
I've been following this series for years now, and I absolutely loved the stories and the characters. In this book, as well as the last book though, Rachel is becoming increasingly reactive and her outbursts often seem immature. I often cringed listening to her go on another rant against Trent. She dislikes him, she's conflicted about him, she thinks he's sexy - We Get It. Could she please stop reacting to this as if its shocking information every time?
It's not that I mind when stories start off a bit slow, as the author gives details and insights in the setting, characters, environment, etc. - but this story starts immediately. I loved it! You're only 2 or 3 minutes into the book and the action has already started. You get to know the characters through their actions, instead of prolonged thoughtful monologes (again, not that I mind those). You jump in with both feet from the get go and the story stays fast paced, interesting and extremely well read. I'm really excited to have come across what I believe is going to be a fantastic new series.
I did enjoy the story, though I know when you buy one of these types of books the plot is generally predictable (I have no problem with that really), but, there are several moments when the female character becomes incredibly hard to listen to. She gets better, she redeems herself, but it can be tough getting through at some points. Great male lead.
After reading some of the reviews on this book, I was wary to invest in it - after all, a bad narration can ruin a good story. I was pleasantly surprised when I found no fault with the narration (no, no lisp that I could detect) and Carter (the male character) was one of the most endearing male characters I have come across in a long time. I recommend this book with no reservations whatsoever.
