"Dazzling debut!"
This is a book lovers book! Listen and you will appreciate what I mean. While the narration is excellent-the writing is superb. I hope this is only the first of many to come just like it from Mr. Towles. I suspect in my listening that I got a sense of New York in mid -dpression as it really was. Thanks to Amor and Rebecca for making me fall for Gotham and for its darling Katie!
"A Blessing Afterall!"
What a beautiful listen-both content and delivery-mixing elements of The Kitchen House and The Help and delivering all the best that good Historical Fiction has to offer. Congratulations to Peter Troy for such a finely woven story of the heartache and the joy of the end of slavery and the rebirth of an nation. Also thanks to the four narrators for bringing these fascinating heros and heroines to life. May the Road Rise up to Meet You is truly a blessing afterall. Highly recommended!
"Quite the Travelogue!!"
What a ride-his best, at least for me, since The Shining! Completely different in style and content than much of his past work. Appreciated the history lesson and the love story-a fine mix of fact and fantacy-superbly read by Mr. Wasson. Recommend it highly!
"Tour de Force?"
Can a 4 and a half hour book ever be referred to as a "tour de force" -oxymoron isn't it? Well this one can as far as I'm concerned. The writing is crisp and clever and the story intriguing. Filling in the details is left to the mind of the creative listener. This creativity is an aspect I enjoyed for a change having listened recently to wonderful epics by Martin, Follet, Courtney and Gabaldon where filling in the blanks is seldom required. I highly recommend this book and encourage listeners, especially those who might be put off by its brevity, to give it a try.
