I always, always, always finish a book. Not this one. I don't even care how it ends. I'm 2 chapters from the end and I refuse to waste another hour of my life on this awful book. Before buying I always read the reviews so before writing this, I went back to read them again and they're almost all positive. Oh well, maybe it's me but I'd rank this as one of the worst books ever. Contrary to some of the other reviewers, I think the narrator did ok, especially considering what drivel she had to work with!

Lucas Davenport has had disturbing cases before - but never one quite like this, in the shocking new Prey work from the #1 New York Times best-selling author.

    Story

This is my least favorite of the Lucas Davenport mysteries and I've listened to every single one of them (and all the Virgil Flowers books) 2 or 3 times. It's not because of the story which is good. It's certainly up to John Sandford's usual quality writing, but rather it's because -- as much as I love Richard Ferrone in all the other Prey books, the voice he uses for the "Fairy" in this book is like nails on a chalkboard. It's sooooooooooooooooooo bad and it's all through the hours and hours of the book. If you have a choice, READ this one. Don't listen to it. Love you Richard Ferrone -- but not in this book!

This only my second Perry book. I liked - not loved - the first one but Having listened to Pursuit, Im now an official fan and will be getting all his books. This book is equal parts character development and plot and both are done extremely well. I'm a huge Jack Reacher fan (have them all, both audio and paper) and this book comes darn close. I hope the rest of his books measure up AND hope he continues the story line.

If I haven't listened to books by an author recently and download a new one, I typically go back and re-listen to all of them in order adding the latest one at the end. Having done that, I was SO very disappointed with this book. If you took all of her liberal rants out of the book, I'm quite sure you'd have a short story. Perhaps if I shared her beliefs, I wouldn't find them so objectionable, but I don't and I really don't care what she thinks about global warming or any of the other half a dozen views she sprinkles liberally throughout the book. I listen to books to be entertained, intriqued, and even amused NOT to listen to the writers political views. And she does so as if it were facts that we all know and believe. Anyway, should there be another Wilhelm novel, I for one will avoid it. I think Ms. Wilhelm ran out of anything to write about 2 or 3 novels ago.

Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

Since I heard Gregg Hurwitz first novel, I've been hooked and I've listened to all of them. When I saw Survivor had been released, I bought it immediately. This is the best ever. I couldn't put it down, which is to say I listened straight through with only a few hours of sleep in the middle. It's an original, not like anything else I've read. Hurwitz combines elements I would never have believed could be in the same novel and does it brilliantly. I want so much to write about some of the things I felt as I listened and how many times I changed my mind about the ending but I don't want to give even a minute of this away. You deserve to take this adventure on your own. I recommend it without reservation. Yes there are some blood and guts, so if that bothers you and you can't force yourself to fast forward through those when they occur, then I guess it's not for you, but there's so very much more to it than that. I hope Hurwitz is well into his next book. I'm already in line to buy it.

But I can't end this without mentioning Scott Brick. I listen to 3-4 books every week and he is one of my absolute favorites. I think he is the perfect match for this book and give him 6 stars as well.

    Enjoy!

His interest in her was purely professional...or so he told himself. Nash Kirkland had sought out Morgana Donovan, self-proclaimed witch, to help him research his latest screenplay. The hardheaded skeptic didn't believe for a minute she was what she professed to be, but Nash somehow found himself falling under her bewitching spell. Nash had never trusted his feelings. How could he be sure the irresistible passion he felt was real and not just some conjurer's trick?

Blair Mallory, last seen in To Die For, has already survived one murder attempt. Now, while planning her wedding and dealing with holiday-season madness, Blair once again dodges a bullet. Or, more precisely, a Buick. And though the driver's identity remains a mystery, his or her murderous intentions are all too clear.

When college kids hiking near an abandoned military industrial complex in West Virginia mysteriously disappear, special agent Janet Carter - earnest, honest, and fed up with the stifling chauvinistic environment at the Roanoke FBI headquarters - is called in to investigate. Unfortunately, there are no leads - it's as if the three just vanished into thin air.

In her latest suspense masterpiece, Karin Slaughter weaves together moving, powerful human stories of characters as real as they are complex and unforgettable. At the same time she has crafted a work of dazzling storytelling and spine-tingling mystery - as three people, with their own wounds and their own secrets, are all that stand between a madman and his next crime.

What the bad guy does to these women is horrific, but if you can watch a Criminal Minds on TV....or a CSI, you've seen worse. Story is very well written, narration is excellent (surprisingly there are 2 times a short section of the dialogue repeats exactly). Loved Will and Faith and their unusual partnership. Learned more about anorexia than I'd ever heard and it really opened my eyes to my relationship with an anorexic friend. Anyway, I recommend this book. I enjoyed it very much (although I knew who did it very early) and am looking for another Karin Slaughter book right now.
