Very enjoyable read/listen to. Easy to follow and kept me going. As all the other reviews go, I would highly recommend this book - great story and excellent narration
What a great writer ... how can you write a story about a road trip and mathmatics, and make it exciting and fun .. but this author can.
Such a great listen to. I was glued from the beginning. The loveable Mum and 2 kids from the wrong side battling life. A rich depressed guy in lots of trouble with his IT business.
They end up in a road trip together to fulfil the dream of the daughter, living in the once luxury car, battling a farting dog, food poisoning, motion sickness ... its warts and all
But the bond that develops is just lovely .. its a great book
Basic story, 2 people coming out of their own failed romances, rocky start, they are happy then an expected hic-up strikes.
Easy to get through ... story was very normal, nothing exciting. I kept waiting for something really exciting to happen but it just didnt.
Got through it ... not a keeper
I know this book has received great reviews but i found it quite dull. Ive had a poor run lately in my picking of audio books so was determined to give this one every chance but it was an effort. Im not saying it was bad, i just found it boring .. no "what going to happen next" or "cant wait to resume where i left off". I just listened to the lives of the characters and waited for the end.
I know this book was a finalist in the recent ChitLit awards and yes it was enjoyable but there was that extra something missing. I wasn't hanging out to find out what happens next .. I was quite happy to keep listening and plodding on with the story and just waiting for the end.
Not saying it wasn't enjoyable. You'll get cake recipes and cooking tips and the story itself was OK but just average. Girl loses job, spends her redundancy on opening up a cake store, makes new friends, learns from her old grandpa, meets a guy etc
Nice story .. I actually listened to most of it whilst cooking but at times, had to make myself focus on the story
Jill Mansell books are always a sure bet - this one in particular.
After Lara's mother died, her father took up with another woman and married her. Neither are nice people and eventually, Lara is thrown out of the house at aged 16.
She lives with her Aunt for many years and eventually returns "home" upon the death of her father. She discovers she has inherited her family home and decides to move in and get a job.
Switch to her old boyfriend, Flynn, single & handsome and wants to pick up where they left off years ago.
On top of this, there is Lara's teenage daughter ......
Then there is Harry, Lara's friend who owns an old fashion clothing store with troubles of his own - ie in the form of a popular rap star (sounds odd but really works) who is filming his own reality show.
Then there is Lara's best friend, Evie who is about to get married but everything begins to fall apart.
This is such a good book with beautiful charaters. Its a must to read.
Great read - Sophie is a photographer and has moved to Cornwall to set up her own business. She catches the eye of Josh who co-owns a local hotel with his grandmother Dot. Sophie however has vowed to stay away from relationships ie Josh to which I had to find out why!!
Then there is Sophie’s best friend Tula, Josh’s fun loving friend Riley, Dot and her ex-husband Lawrence, and local author Marguerite. All have their own sub-plots and dramas which are perfectly woven throughout the story.
Its an enjoyable read/listen to
This story was so different but so enjoyable. Its grumpy old man George, befriending male Gen Y plus a couple of years Justin. It took a couple of chapters to get use to the writing/narration but after say 15 mins, I was glued. It was lovely to see how, although both guys are so different, enhance each other's lives.
Such a good story. I don't usually pick stories narrated by men but this was a gem. Its the count-down to turning 40 with all the hic-ups inbetween. Highly recommended
Really good story. Kept me interested from the beginning. Clear and really interesting characters. Wee bit more serious than expected but that was the key to keeping me interested. Highly recommended
As always, great book to listen to. Newly divorced Juliet needs a flatmate, Floz moves in and become friends.
Juliet's twin brother Gus meets Floz and falls hard but just cant do anything right. Gus' best mate Steve has been in love with Juliet for years but she hates him even though every other female falls for him.
With Juliet's feisty temperament and Floz' quieter, calmer personality they make a great pair. Floz actually has a dark history so you really hope all goes well for her. The wooing of the 2 girls by Steve and Gus is just hilarious.
They get more and more desperate in their plans, which of course then go even more desperately wrong!
