"Best James Lee Burke - Will Patton EVER!"
I have read all of James Lee Burke books. I have never done a review like this before. I am only 1/3 of the way through this book. It is unbelievable. This is one of those few books where I don't really care how it ends, the story is so rich, vivid and compelling it doesn't matter. Clete Purcell is back and better than ever. Will Patton shines. Do yourself a favor, stop listening to whatever you are listening to and get this book. It is a 3 part book, and although I am only 1/3 of the way through, I am going to be thoroughly depressed when it ends.
"Don't waste your time"
This is a long book (not in length), with a complicated plot towards the end and no empathic characters. Only a die hard Jack Reacher fan should read this book who doesn't care about the plot or storyline
No
Excellent as always
I cannot believe I am giving a Jack Reacher book a bad review because I love all the others. This book is very slow for a long while and there are really no characters that you really care about as the book develops. At the very end you really don't care anymore.
"Well Written and Spoken but Dark"
Another James Lee Burke and Will Patton winner. So why only 3 stars. This is not the typical good guy - bad guy book. It is a bit dark about the inner sole of a man, Hackberry Holland and his inner deamons.
"Waste of time"
I read Robert Crais's book 'Taken' which was fantastic. This book was a huge disappointment. Poor narrator. There are two main woman characters in this novel, it is 'grating' to hear him try and impersonate a southern belle. The ending is ridiculous, leaves you so unsatisfied. In short, don't waste your time.
"Great Book - Great Reader and Plot!"
For those of you that read the Michael Connelly and Lee Childs' books, If you like Jack Reacher and Harry Bosch you will absolutely love this book. This was my first introduction to Elvis Cole the detective (similar to Harry Bosch) and Joe Pike (similar to a combination of Jack Reacher and Mitch Rapp. The story is engaging from the beginning and once you are hooked you will have a hard time putting it down. The reader does a great job with the voices of the different characters. I must warn you there are some evil bad guys in this book.
"Another Fantastic Sandford Book"
Great plot, excellent reader. Great twists and turns to the story.Virgil Flowers is the perfect good guy cop.
"Great Story - Disaster for an ending"
Don't worry, I won't give anything away in this review. How can I give the story 4 stars and the overall 2 stars. This is a great story with a great plot and twists. I was not wild about the reader Len Cariou ( I like Dick Hill better). Now I have read most of the Harry Bosch novels and Lee Child - etc. I am willing to finish a book and wonder what happened to the bad guy or did the good guy survive - wondering if there would be a followup. This book was a joke. The book ramps up towards the end exposing a new twist and plot and it ends. It is as if the author died (I hope not) or the publisher gave him 1 day to finish it. The absence of an ending made me want to rewind the end and listen again to make sure that I hadn't dozed off and missed the important points. I actually went to the book store to look at the end of the written book to see if Audible made a mistake. Anyway, I felt cheated.
"Another Andy Carpenter hit- One of his Best"
This is one of his best books. Great and intricate plot - (you need to pay attention to the characters). Typical funny sarcasm. Well developed
"Don't Waste your time"
I can't believe I would ever say that about a Jack Reacher book. I have read nearly all of them and love them all. This thing drags for part one - lots of monologue and dialogue - only one "Jack Reacher" scene. In part 2 the plot begins to develop. Finally at the end as things come together and the plot is explained - you leave with the feeling of 'who cares'. There is no evil bad guy that you want Jack to deal with. If you want to listen to 2 great books - please listen to James Lee Burke - 'Feast of Fools' and David Rosenfelt's latest Andy Caprenter book.
"Fantastic James Lee Burke-Will Patton book - Best!"
I have read all of the James Lee Burke unabridged books. In my mind this is his best. As is typical for James Lee Burke, his prose and descriptions are wonderful to listen to. The plot in this book will keep you captivated. I must warn you there are some pretty bad - I mean evil people in this book. Will Patton is at his best. This has to be one of the best books I have ever listened to on Audible. I am probably going to go into James Lee Burke withdrawal until the next one.
