When listening to this book, and hearing how he and his friends hate Republicans, it made me feel sick and enraged to have spent money on this book. What if he had said the same thing about any other group of people, would it be accepted as funny? What if he had said the same thing about Blacks, Arabs, women or Jews? There is no place for this "humor" in a book that is not advertised as a political piece when he mocks half the population of the United States of America. I certainly would not have bought it if I had known.
A well written story, narrated expertly, from an unusual viewpoint of an old subject, The Tragedy of Germany in the early 40's. Very human from a completely different point of view. This book brings to life how many more people were torn apart by these horrible events than the obvious victims.
A compelling story of life and survival. Not just survival of life, but survival of being. Without even knowing where I was being lead the author took me on a journey of a young man's life as he struggled to cope in the aftermath of a terrible tragedy, finding keys to the answer he was seeking along the way without knowing he was doing so.
An amazing read, and quite unexpected as I had not read any of Ms.Tartt's works before. I look forward to reading more of her stories.
David Pittu, the narrator, is extremely talented. The narration was largely seamless, the characters completely believable. The range of his voice is the best I have ever heard.
I have only listened to 6.5 chapters, but the narration is so unfortunate that I do not want to proceed. Arya now sounds like Brienne. Brienne sounds like Jaime. and on and on. The names are pronounced different from the last three books and often different in the same chapter. It is insulting to the audience that the narrator did not listen to his previous performances before proceeding with this book. Where were the producers?
This book seems to be far afield of the storyline already, and I believe it will just get worse after reading the other reviews. It appears the author and the narrator coasted on this one thinking it was easy money. For shame.
I am considering returning this book to Audible along with book 5.
A very compelling story read by an accomplished artist. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
The book began nicely, the story was a good concept, but the ending just came very abruptly with no real meat in the middle. Each character had a beginning and an end with very little in between.
