This is one of the best audiobooks I own. The best part is the way that the narrator lets the meter work. Dactylic hexameter, the meter used in the poem, is rarely used in English. After listening to this recording I can't imagine why. The only other audiobooks audible has that are recited in this meter are translations of the Iliad, but neither of those narrators take advantage of it like Mr. Fleetwood does in Evangeline. The poem, the meter, and the narrator are all so powerful!
Ian McKellan's narration of the Odyssey is delightful. I love listening to his mellifluous voice, as he describes the "twists and turns" of Odysseus voyage home. Highly recommended!
