I will confess to being a Keegan fan. The information presented is interesting and presents the complexity of war both for individuals and countries. I will listen to this again.

This book took a bit to pull me in, but by the end I was sorry it was finished. It is a carefully constructed book. The writing is good, especially the description of the places. The less important characters occasionally wander into "stock" territory, but the inner lives of the main characters ring very true. I ended up caring very much what happened to these people. I am not sure I would listen to again since knowing the end might ruin some of the enjoyment, but I wouldn't rule that out. It is a story that slowly creeps under your skin.

So I am a sucker for the Tudor Period. I enjoyed this so much I immediately downloaded others by the same author.

I sometimes got annoyed with how the author gets carried away by her own ability to write...if you can get in another metaphor, do it...this tendency makes it hard to figure out what is important and what is just a verbal flourish, but for the patient reader, it turns into a very interesting and powerful story. Narration is a little whiney, but then so is the character telling the story.

This is an engaging book with an interesting dose of history. Not a challenging piece of literature, neither does it insult your intelligence. I enjoyed it

Just a good spy story set in Nazi Germany. If you are into this sort of story, it is as good as it gets. Doesn't require a whole lot of thinking...

This was a good book, but it did not live up to the reviews it got when it was published. I found it hard to care about what happened....

Having just returned from Japan, I found this book very interesting. It tells the story of the years after WWII and nurtures an understanding not only of how Japan evolved, but also how those years have lead to our current relations with Japan. For those not especially interested in history it will probably drag and be too full of detail, but I found it very informative and thought provoking.
