I have to admit, I bought this one a while before I listened to it. All the reviews said it was great for children so I thought I would have a hard time getting in to it, but I love Terry Pratchett so I thought I would give it a chance. I have to say it is just as good as any of the Night Watch ilk, which if you know anything of the Discworld, should say a lot (and if you don't make sure you also purchase Discworld #8: Guards, Guards! to get started on one of the best set of the Discworld Novels, the Night Watch, trust me on this one, you will thank me). Anyway, back to the Wee Free Men, I listen as I open my restaurant, and more than once I found myself laughing outloud while mopping the floor... One of Pratchetts better works. Thanks for giving us all of the novels back, I am so happy to see them all again!
This was a book I was supposed to have read in High School years ago. I always regretted not finishing it, so I jumped at the chance to hear it. It is a good story, with a good moral and good characters. It can be long winded at times and hard to keep with. I found that I wasn't trying to listed to it all the time, like I often do with audio books. However, it was worth my time, just a little hard to get through at times. I think this is why I quit reading the book :).
I really enjoyed this book, but would suggest to anyone to purchase Callahan's Chronicles first, without that you miss out on a lot of background, as well as some of the spirit of the novel. This one doesn't have the heart of the Callahan's Place, but, none the less, it still holds its own, with a great fun story that keeps you wrapped up. Audible - More Spider Please!!
I had never heard of Callahan's Place, mostly I bought this based on others reviews, and due to the legnth because I had a long road trip ahead of me. Listening to the first short story, I wondered if I had made the right decision, by the end of the first story (The Man with the Eyes) I was in love with Callahan's Place! I found myself sitting in my car just to hear the rest of the chapter. I also purchased the other one Spider Robbinson book that Audible has (Callahan's Key) and have listened to all 12 hours of that in record time as well. The characters are very loveable, and I found part of myself in each one. "Shared pain is lessened;
Shared joy is increased"
