Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life - steady boyfriend, close family - who has never been farther afield than her tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life - big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel - and now he's pretty sure he cannot live the way he is. Will is acerbic, moody, bossy - but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected.

"Very good story. Worth my credit."

I thought the character development was excellent. The topic was complex and the author did not shy away from it.

What about Susan Lyons’s performance did you like?

Well, she has a fabulous voice and does a great job with voices. I really liked Lou's (the protagonist's) voice.

Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

Where does The Glass Rainbow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best audiobooks I've heard so far. Will Patton is a fantastic narrator and has great voices (Clete is a particularl favorite). The story is complex and the characters are well developed. If you like crime novels and thrillers this is definitely worth a credit.

In this debut historical thriller, an aristocratic young nun must find a legendary crown in order to save her father’s life and preserve all she holds dear. When novitiate nun Joanna Stafford learns her rebel cousin is condemned by King Henry VIII to be burned at the stake, she makes the decision to break the sacred rule of enclosure and flee her Dominican order in Dartford to stand at her cousin’s side. Arrested for interfering with king’s justice, Joanna, along with her father, Sir Richard Stafford, is sent to the Tower of London.

What made the experience of listening to The Crown the most enjoyable?

This book was very solid. I enjoy historical fiction and Nancy Bilyeau clearly knows her stuff. She spends a lot of time developing the characters, which i particularly enjoy. The story is good and the interweaving of historical characters with fictitious ones is seamless. It is a nice long book, which may sound silly; however for me if the book is good, this is only an added bonus! It can make a long day of housework or boring paperwork tolerable. I look forward another book by Nancy Bilyeau.

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden has had a rough couple of weeks. As the only openly practicing professional wizard in the Chicago area, he has squared off against a multitude of supernatural bad guys. Harry has won the day against demons, poltergeists, sorcerers, trolls, vampires, werewolves, and even an evil faerie godmother. You might think nothing could spook him. You would be wrong.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I've listened to the first three Harry Dresden books and I *so badly* wanted to get into them. Many friends have recommended them and are totally hooked by Harry....alas I found myself tuning out long periods of it because I was just...well, bored. There is so much crisis in these books that there ends up being no suspense. The story is not well developed and I personally don't think it is worth the cost or the credit. Disappointing.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

We downloaded this book for a 6 hour trip. Mom, dad, an 11 and a 7 year old were totally absorbed for the entire trip. Neil narrates this book himself and he does not disappoint. The characters are interesting, the story is layered with complexity and there is plenty of suspense. Totally worth the purchase. We'll listen again this summer on another long journey.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.
