I'm going to be traveling to Germany next year and want to learn as much German as I can before I go. I already have a long commute, so these tapes seemed like a great solution for me. Now that I've finished this first set, I'm definitely going to be purchasing the rest of these lessons. They were easy to follow, and I feel like I'm actually starting to learn valuable communication skills rather than just spitting back vocabulary words. It's too early to tell just how much I'll learn, but I liked my experience enough to keep going.
This is probably a one-time listen. It's a sweet story, and I enjoyed the characters and the narration, but there isn't enough depth to it to make me come back over and over again. This isn't my usual choice, but sometimes it's nice to take a little break for an easy story - this definitely fit the bill.
This is Beth Hoffman's first book, so there isn't really anything to compare it to. It thought it was a good first effort, not really a lot of legitimate drama or conflict, but a sweet and easy listen.
I chose this book on the recommendation of a friend and because I'd enjoyed Jenna Lamia's performance of The Secret Life of Bees. This was an equally good performance, and I'd definitely be inclined to choose other books just because Ms. Lamia was the narrator.
Of course Ceecee herself. She's a delightful young person trying to figure out her way in the world. Experiencing all of the other characters through her is what makes the book an enjoyable listen.
If you're looking to fill some time with an easy, charming listen, then this is for you. If you're looking for a deep and meaningful story with a lot of tension and actual conflict, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.
