"Obnoxious Main Character"
I was consistently annoyed at the main character throughout the book because she acts naïve, stupid and incompetent even though she is supposed to be a smart, tough ex-soldier.
She is unable to defend herself almost every time someone tries to beat her up or kill her. She knows that she is constantly being monitored, but keeps insisting that the two male protagonists tell her their personal life stories and classified/dangerous secrets and gets mad every time they do not comply. She “can’t workout” why having her baby sister stay at her apartment while someone is trying to kill her would be a “security breach.” She does all this while wallowing in self-pity most of the book.
"Annoying Main Character"
I’ve read all the other audiobooks written by Molly Harper and thought they were a fun read. However, the main character of this book was too annoying and self-centered for me to get into this book.
"A Somber Sookie"
My first thought after reading the book was “that’s it?” I did not feel like much happened apart from setting the stage for the next book.
I enjoy this series, but am disappointed with this book. The tone of the book is quite somber; the fun factor is absent. Sookie is in a funk for the whole book and is very judgmental towards both herself and the non-humans in her life for not being Christian enough. It felt most of the book was her mentally beating herself up for choices necessary to survive. I’d like to see her grow a bit more and embrace her whole self and her gifts rather than just glorifying her human side.
