New York Times bestselling author Ted Dekker teams with Tosca Lee to create this gripping thriller set in a desolate future. Many years have passed since civilization's brush with apocalypse. The world's greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace... and fear. But a terrible secret has been closely guarded for centuries: Every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.

Donna Stieglitz says: "Don't miss out on a great book!"
"Uninspiring story, but with fantastic narration!"

    Story

"Forbidden" explores cliché themes with a fairly predictable plot-line and superficial characters whose motivations are unbelievable and whose personalities are difficult to relate to. While not an overly boring read (much thanks to the excellent narration by Henry Leyva), "Forbidden" feels adolescent, leaving much to be desired for in a professional work of adult fiction.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Kapila says: "6 titles in the series so far"
    "Entertaining, but deep as well!"

    Story

Some novels are purely entertaining, while others are dry, yet philosophically intriguing. Occasionally there comes a story that is both gripping, and philosophically challenging. Ender's Game is one such book.

Intriguing, well written, and superbly acted (probably my favourite audible performance to date), this is a classic that every lover of Sci-Fi should own!

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Julie W. Capell says: "I’m sorry I waited so long to read this book."

    You will LOVE this book.

Full of constant, thrilling action, awesome technology and world-building, and believable characters whom you end up really caring about, Ready Player One is easily one of the funnest books I've read in years!

While not particularly provocative or deep, the pure entertainment value of such an exciting, wild story so well-told is enough to make even the pickiest of readers just eat this book up!

Plus - all that 80's and Gamer geekyness give it an extra-fun, nostalgic flair that will totally make you fall in love with it if you grew up in that decade or consider yourself a gamer in any way.

    Just friggen READ IT already!

  • Childhood's End

The Overlords appeared suddenly over every city - intellectually, technologically, and militarily superior to humankind. Benevolent, they made few demands: unify earth, eliminate poverty, and end war. With little rebellion, humankind agreed, and a golden age began.

Ryan says: "Still a classic of visionary science fiction"
"Interesting ideas, but flat characters & no story."

    Story

Some fans of speculative fiction might consider this a masterpiece. However, if you enjoy a good story with interesting three-dimensional characters, then this story is NOT for you. While the ideas explored in Childhood's End were intriguing, the lack of any interesting plot or relatable characters made it hard for the story to really capture my attention.

The performance was good, but without a solid story behind it, it ended up falling flat.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Guillermo says: "Masterful Fantasy for the Jaded Heart"

This is one of my favourite Gaiman stories ever! Although technically a story for children, it's full of that magical charm, creepiness and wit that makes all of Gaiman's work so engaging. A great read!

In a world of conflicted loyalties, rapidly diminishing human power, and the possibility that anyone can be a spy, what's at stake is nothing less than human freedom's last hope to survive the technology revolution.

Freedom (TM) is the second book of the fast-paced, exciting and hugely intriguing story about a possible future not too far off. There is a solid and incredibly exciting plot with a rich variety of interesting and unlikely heroes, set against terrifying villains with near unlimited resources. The ideas Suarez proposes are surprisingly original, yet seem not only likely - but almost inevitable. The performance is good in general, but some of the voices Jeff Gurner uses get a little distracting at points. Still - one of the best audio books I've ever listened to!

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

The conclusion of the Mistborn trilogy fulfills all the promise of the first two books. Revelations abound, connections rooted in early chapters of the series click into place, and surprises, as satisfying as they are stunning, blossom like fireworks to dazzle and delight. It all leads up to a finale unmatched for originality and audacity that will leave listeners shaking their heads in wonder, as if awaking from an amazing dream.

Rich, interesting characters, intriguing, slow-revealing mysteries, an incredibly detailed and original universe, and fantastic dialogue all brought together into one wildly adventurous epic tale! And even amongst the adventure and struggle, Sanderson manages to artfully discuss the deep questions of human existence, religion and philosophy. Paired with Michael Kramer's excellent performance, the Mistborn series should be on everyone's virtual shelf! Truly brilliant!

But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.
