I've always loved the Ranger's Apprentice series, and this book was no exception. I laughed out loud, and shed some tears. It was a very enjoyable experience.
I did want to listen to it all at once, so it was hard for me to turn it off when I had to go to work.
I didn't realize that this was part of a series when I purchased it, and it wasn't until much later that I noticed this was book two. However, I don't feel like I missed too much by not reading the first book. There were some interesting characters in this book and an interesting plot, but there were just too many gory details for my liking. I would often come away from a listening feeling slightly queasy. It wasn't my favorite book, but I'm sure there are others who would really enjoy it. However, I was not inclined to go looking for the rest of the series.
This story was remarkable! I loved that there was a full cast of narrators, so each character had his or her own unique voice. Anne Frank's story is well known, so it was interesting to hear the scenario from someone else's perspective. Of course, considering the setting, there are depressing moments in the story, but there are also lighthearted scenes to be enjoyed. I would recommend listening to this book. You won't regret it!
I did enjoy the story overall and the journey that Lexi takes is an interesting one. There was a lot more swearing than I would have preferred, so that was a little hard to listen to, but other than that it was an fun story to listen to.
I think I may have enjoyed this more in print format, because the story switched from present day to past memories and then occasionally to newspaper articles. I felt like every time the scene changed, I spent a full minute trying to figure out what was going on. The transitions were easier to catch on to as the book progressed, but it was definitely distracting at the beginning.
There were times that I wished the narrator would read faster so I could know what was going to happen sooner, but there were also times that I felt the story dragged on a little bit.
She has a very pleasant voice to listen to, and did a relatively good job at giving each character a unique voice.
