Jon Ronson is fascinated by madness, extraordinary behaviour and the human mind. He has spent his life investigating crazy events, following fascinating people and unearthing unusual stories. Collected here from various sources (including the Guardian and GQ America) are the best of his adventures.

If you could sum up Lost at Sea: The Jon Ronson Mysteries in three words, what would they be?

This was an excellent listen! The author/narrator sounds a lot like Bill Bryson, very similar personality also. I highly recommend!!!

When Edmund Hillary first conquered Mt. Everest, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was at his side. Indeed, for as long as Westerners have been climbing the Himalaya, Sherpas have been the unsung heroes in the background. In August 2008, when eleven climbers lost their lives on K2, the world’s most dangerous peak, two Sherpas survived. They had emerged from poverty and political turmoil to become two of the most skillful mountaineers on earth. Based on unprecedented access and interviews, Buried in the Sky reveals their astonishing story for the first time.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I was looking forward to the story, but the narration is horrible and sounds like it's automated.

What could Peter Zuckerman and Amanda Padoan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Found a different narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of David Doersch’s performances?

    Not a chance.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

  • Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana - Medical, Recreational, and Scientific

Martin A. Lee traces the dramatic social history of marijuana, from its origins to its emergence in the 1960s as a defining force in a culture war that has never ceased. Lee describes how the illicit marijuana subculture overcame government opposition and morphed into a dynamic, multibillion-dollar industry. Colorful, illuminating, and at times irreverent, this is a fascinating listen for recreational users and patients, students and doctors, musicians and accountants, Baby Boomers and their kids, and anyone who has ever wondered about the secret life of this ubiquitous herb.

Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status...and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If I had known it was basically pro Israeli, anti Islam/Palestine propaganda.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    The Demon in the freezer

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    He's a joke.

What character would you cut from Son of Hamas?

Mosab. He states that the Palestinian people are mere barbarians and fanatics, who would be fighting one another whether Israel had been imposed on the region or not. At first Mosab's character seemed complicated, conflicted and intriguing. I was looking forward to hearing this young man's honest first person account of the issues between Israel and Palestine, from the Palestinian point of view. This is a Palestinian individual with a decided Israeli point of view, with some anti-American jabs just for kicks. He describes himself as a "spy", the correct label, if any part of this story is true, would be be -informant- or "snitch", licking the boots of his new Israeli Masters. This is pure propaganda. Unfortunately, I was almost finished with this book before I declared it absolute nonsense, turned it off and penned this review.

    Any additional comments?

I burn through these audio-books like wildfire, and on many, many occasions, I have found myself half way through a book only to find that it has a hard Christian or Jewish slant. I read almost exclusively non-fiction, so I expect non-fiction. Personally, my beliefs are secular in nature, and I respect other religions. Although, if I want some religion, I'll buy some religion. I really feel ripped off when "Christianity" or "Judaism" is the equivalent to a jack-in-the-box, in the middle of a book. It really makes me reluctant to try new authors on Audible. It's difficult with audio-books, because you cannot check a little of the beginning, middle and end. You only have the publishers sales pitch, a brief audio clip to check the narrators voice (this is actually huge), and hopefully some accurate customer reviews. I have purchased over 1,200 titles since joining Audible in 2009. I can safely say (not proudly) that at least 1/3 of those books were purchased in error. Anyway ... this guy is a joke and so is his book. : (

This incredible story shows how John Douglas tracked and participated in the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history. For 31 years a man who called himself BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) terrorized the city of Wichita, Kansas, sexually assaulting and strangling a series of women, taunting the police with frequent communications, and bragging about his crimes to local newspapers and TV stations.

Where does Inside the Mind of BTK rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

The content was great, and if you can survive the narration, the book is really good. I would say it's in the top 25 audio-books I've listened to. I guess it says something if the content is good enough to -almost- neutralize the narrator? I don't know if I could/would tolerate another

What was one of the most memorable moments of Inside the Mind of BTK?

The book contains copious amounts of information. There was no single

What didn???t you like about Jason Klav???s performance?

Mr. Klav should seek another line of work. He should also give back the money he was paid for this book.

Mr. Domscheit-Berg sure does have some animosity toward Julian Assange! And, that is all this book is, sour grapes. This guy does not miss an opportunity to slight Mr. Assange, including critiquing his wardrobe (several times) ! Talk about a crybaby! I want my money back! Daniel Domscheit-Berg is a sniveling whiner, and manages to snivel and whine throughout the entire book. Second place is just the guy who lost first. This book has little to do with Wiki, and quite a bit to do with Domscheit-Berg's bad taste, poor timing and lack of physical endowment. Save your money, I wish I had.
