Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix, cruel ruler of the Empire. Now Eragon must travel to Ellesmera, land of the elves, for further training in the skills of the Dragon Rider: magic and swordsmanship. Soon he is on the journey of a lifetime, his eyes open to awe-inspiring new places and people, his days filled with fresh adventure. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and nothing is what it seems.

    "Even better than Eldest"
    Overall

Christopher Paoli continues to grow in skill as an author. This book is filled with very profound thinking and ideas. It proceeds at a measured pace, and keeps the reader enthralled. I am eagerly awaiting the final book of The Inheritance Trilogy, though will be sad to see the end. These stories keep me coming back to listen over and over again. The author's writing transcends the ages of readers. Early teens through adults will enjoy reading Eldest and Eragon. It's a shame the movie industry gave the first installment such a poor treatment. I hope another studio gives The Inheritance Trilogy another chance with a a director such as Peter Jackson. The story has the potential for success to rival Lord of the Rings.

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

    Sandra says: "Utterly Awesome!"
"A classic gem of its genre"
    Overall

For young and old I would highly recommend The Inheritance Trilogy. The only downside is waiting for the 3rd and final book. As a 40ish adult I have cherished becoming immersed in this book and have enjoyed sprited discussions with my 10 yr old daughter about the characters and plot and future developments. Reading books like Eragon and the Harry Potter series can open a dialog with an otherwise sullen and withdrawn tween easily.
This writing truely captures a heart open to fantasy. Eldest, the 2nd book in the trilogy is even more well written and the climax leaves you yearning for more. Well worth reading over and over again!
We can expect great things from Christopher Paolini in the future.
