One of Jane Austen's most popular novels. Arrogant, self-willed, and egotistical, Emma is her most unusual heroine.

I became interested in the classics after listening to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, so I decided to listen to another Austen and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it so much. Juliet Stevenson is a wonderful narrator and brings each character to life.

If you think you might want to give classic literature a try, I recommend this one. It's funny and extremely well-read.

    >The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

Would you listen to The Chaperone again? Why?

While I very much enjoyed the story and the Midwestern accents (at first), I had a hard time distinguishing between characters. My favorite books are those where I forget that it's just one person reading and can tell the different characters apart by the "sound" of their voices.

Having said that, I loved Cora, her self-realizations, her unconventional life, and her ability to live within the social constraints of her time. Would I listen to it again? Probably not.
