"The Unlikely Spy"
I read/listened to this book as a "test" of Daniel Silva. It suffices to say that after this one, I went and read/listened to all of this books in one shot. The strength of this books are their characters are believable, story lines are complex, and most of all, writing is good. I like his mastery of the language and descriptive phrases. I often want to read the same book twice. This book in particular is good for any WWII spy novel fans, since it does a good job mixing real historical events and fiction.
"Fantastic book and audio book!"
One of the tops, after >10 years of listening to audio books.
Pug Henry. Genuine character. Full of moral and emotional strength, not to mention very smart.
Too many to count. Meeting Stalin at Kremlin banquet
I am now watching the TV series, just bought War and Remembrance Audio book, just bought FDR biography. Avidly learning about WWII, all due to this book.
This is truly a great book, and a great audio book. The book itself, plot, characters, language, all ring true, while also keep you guessing. The dialogues are intelligent. The WWII strategic analysis is brilliant. The historical personalities are both amazing and down to earth at the same time. The audio reader is wonderful. It must be a hard job to read through close a 1000 pages, but the Mr. Pariseau does a great job giving each character his/her own voice. Looking forward to War and Remembrance!Winds of War and War and Remembrance will go on my recommended reading list for my children and grand children, although I am only in my 30's now.
"Love the Allon series, another great read"
I love and have read all Daniel Silva's books, even going back to The Unlikely Spy. Really remind of the great John Le Carre. I literally ran to the books store to buy the paper copy of this book. Now I am "re-reading" the audio version because I like Phil Gigante as well.
My only concern is that Gabrial is getting old. By my math, If he was, let's say in 22 in 1972 on his first mission, he has to be close to 60. How much longer can he go? I hope Mr. Silva has another great hero in the works....
"Not as good as Faithful Spy"
OK book, blot not very plausible. Ending is a bit too quick and solution not realistic. Trying to tie the rise of China into war with terrorism seems far fetched. Book saved by good characterization of main character. Good audio reader.
"The Messenger"
I have read through all of Daniel Silva's books. Love Gabrial. The Messenger is the best one of the lot, I think. I listened to it twice!
"Faithful Spy"
Very good book, in the post 911 anti-terrorist genre. I am really into spy novels, and I am glad I found Alex Bereson. I have exhausted classic master such as John Le Carre, and read through all of Daniel Silva's books. Berenson's is pretty close. For the female spy novel fans, there is just enough romance and internal character emotional struggle to make it not 100% macho.
"Very good parenting book"
This is a very good book in the same way Freaknomics was a very good economics book. It goes beyond the myths of how to become successful. If you have young kids, it is also a very good parenting book, on what you should be aware of to give your kids the best chance to succeed.
