“Hearts are broken,” Lillian Dyson carefully underlined in a book. “Sweet relationships are dead.” But now Lillian herself is dead. Found among the bleeding hearts and lilacs of Clara Morrow's garden in Three Pines, shattering the celebrations of Clara's solo show at the famed Musée in Montreal.

The newest of the series does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.I will note that I couldn't imagine reading these out of order--each book builds on the previous one, particularly with respect to character development.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

I listen to books while I run, and there were times when this book was so emotional--mostly because of the deep engagement of the readers--that i started to cry and ran out of breath (so, not the best book for running, but who cares?!) I loved the writing, the storyline, and especially the way the book was brought to life by the four narrators. I wish it hadn't ended!

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it's nothing more than a tragic hunting accident, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods.

I enjoyed every minute--the details of the town, and its inhabitants, are captivating. the narrator is especially suited to the charm of these characters.

    "not so sure..."
    Overall

A bit implausible....the combination of a slightly simpering voice used for the main character, along with some pretty weak character development in general, made for a tale that wasn't overly compelling. Good for a long car ride, but not riveting.
