This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I was very disappointed in this book. I loved the Jane Yellowrock series and was hoping to enjoy another series by Faith Hunter but this book had none of the passion or excitement the other series did. The narrator was pretty close to being monotone and made it difficult to keep my attention on the story. About half way through the book I finally gave up and quit listening. If this story interests you then I suggest reading the book rather than listening to this audio book.

A vampire from the Grim Sith sept is sucking the souls out of young women from the Boston area, but this sinister crime is far worse than a vampire seeking substance. He's selling the souls to the highest bidder and it seems business is booming. A vampire, a werewolf, and a Necromancer are a most unlikely team, but Garran, Harrison, and Isabella plan on putting a kink in the dubbed Soul Taker's plans. It's personal now. One of their friends has fallen victim to the Soul Taker's charms, but to stop him from hurting anyone else, their efforts may involve raising the dead.

I have no idea if the story is any good or not because the narration was so bad that I couldn't listen to the book for more than ten minutes before I had to stop. The narrator spoke so slowly that it was difficult to pay attention to what he was actually saying rather than how he was saying it. I also own the kindle version of this book so I will give the author a chance and read the book.

Born in Sweetwater, West Virginia, with a mop of flaming red hair and a map of the world rendered in port-wine stains on every surface of her body, Garnet Ferrari is used to being an outcast. With her sharp tongue, she has always known how to defend herself against bullies and aggressors but finds she is less adept at fending off the pilgrims who have set up a veritable tent city outside her hilltop home, convinced she is Saint Garnet, healer of skin ailments and maker of miracles.

I decided to take a chance on the book based on the title and description of the book. I wasn't sure what to think of the book before I read it, but it didn't take long before I couldn't stop listening. It's the kind of book that can make you laugh and cry (at least it was for me). Because the story is told by the main character dictating the story into a series of cassette tapes, it's much much better as an audio book. The narrator, Laura Hicks, was the perfect choice to tell the story of Garnet Ferrari. The author did an excellent job of developing the characters through each story told in the book. It was a unique and refreshing read.

Matilda Case isn't like most folks. In fact, she's unique in the world, the crowning achievement of her father's experiments - a girl pieced together from bits. Or so she believes. That is, until Abraham Seventh shows up at her door, stitched with life thread just like her and insisting that enemies are coming to kill them all. Tilly is one of thirteen incredible creations known as the galvanized, stitched together beings who are immortal and unfathomably strong.

If you could sum up House Immortal in three words, what would they be?

    Promising new series.

What does Leslie Carroll bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think she was a great choice for the main character Matilda. She spoke the characters very well and gave life to the story. I think this book is actually better as an audio book because of the narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't want to take breaks from listening. The story contained enough unexpected twists and turns to keep it continually interesting. I hope I get to listen to the next book in the series soon.

In New York, there's a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side. Of course, most humans are oblivious to this, but Cal Leandros is only half-human. His father's dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares - and he and his entire otherworldly race are after Cal.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I loved listening to this book. The narrator did a great job with the characters and the story moved quickly so there weren't any places in the book where my attention started to drift.

    Any additional comments?

I loved this book but I wish Audible had all of the other books in the series.

Not everyone can take on the nightside. Not everyone tries. But Jill Kismet is not just anyone. She’s a Hunter, trained by the best - and in over her head. Welcome to the night shift....

What made the experience of listening to Night Shift the most enjoyable?

I love the fast pace of the story. Never a dull moment and easy to keep paying attention to the story for long periods of time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Jill be because she is strong but flawed. She is a hero but not a perfect person and it's easy to sympathize with her character.

Would you be willing to try another one of Joyce Bean’s performances?

Joyce Bean is one of the worst narrators I have ever listened to and it's a shame that she has ruined otherwise good books with her voice and over pronunciation of words. When I purchased this book I didn't think to check to see who the narrator was. If I had known it was JB then I would have just read the book instead of listened to it. She is the reason I didn't give this book a 5 star rating.
