Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, Heinlein's juvenile series should be required reading for junior & senior high school kids. I wish I had known about this series when I was a kid. All of the books including this book give real lessons on how to get things done, science and math and, in my opinion, builds interest in science and engineering.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rod Walker. The story shows him growing into the role as leader. It also shows how a good education will help you through tough situations. In Heinlein's juvenile books he shows cultural differences without making them an issue between characters. That sets a good example.

What about David Baker???s performance did you like?

    Excellent. Good voices and personalities.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Teamwork, Friendship & loyalty will get you through most any situation.

    Any additional comments?

Parents and teachers should give the Heinlein books a serious look as an educational tool and reading for english courses. If you did not read them as a youth they are a good read.

July 12, 1939: Perry Nelson is driving along the palisades when another vehicle swerves into his lane, a tire blows out, and his car careens off the road and over a bluff. The last thing he sees before his head connects with the boulders below is a girl in a green bathing suit, prancing along the shore.

Where does For Us, the Living rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

This novel was not what I expected, even after reading the reviews. The story is typical Heinlein but, the way the characters interact turn it into a sociology and economic lesson.

The economic ideas are interesting and the reasons for them are sound. It is to bad he could not come up with some ways to actually get them implemented in the real world.

Would you be willing to try another book from Robert A. Heinlein? Why or why not?

Yes. I have listened to most of Heinleins books.

What about Malcolm Hillgartner???s performance did you like?

    He was good.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

This would not be a film unless it was part of a college course.

    Any additional comments?

Interesting Economic and sociological ideas presented. The system used to study economic systems is simple and smart.

Dan Davis, an electronics engineer, had finally made the invention of a lifetime: a household robot that could do almost anything. Wild success was within reach, but then Dan's life was ruined. In a plot to steal his business, his greedy partner and greedier fiancée tricked him into taking the "long sleep": suspended animation for 30 years.

I never write reviews but, this novel is my favorite by Heinlein. He makes it so that you can really understand what motivates the character. It also gives a good look at how engineers and designers work.

He made a statement that I have heard in my professional career as an engineer. When I heard it I said that it was nonsense and I still thinks so. Heinlein said "Engineering is as much art as science” but he did clarify and say that it was the design phase where art is involved.

This book also shows the value of patenting your ideas. Based on this book he came up with several ideas that are worth billions today. It really made me smile.

    Great book!
