A Tale of Two Cities is one of Charles Dickens's most exciting novels. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, it tells the story of a family threatened by the terrible events of the past. Doctor Manette was wrongly imprisoned in the Bastille for 18 years without trial by the aristocratic authorities.

What made the experience of listening to A Tale of Two Cities the most enjoyable?

I cannot pronounce the French names and places, so hearing them made it come alive. I have tried to read the classic a couple of times, and got bogged down in the beginning with "all those descriptive words"! Hearing it made it so much more interesting!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cotton - love and faithfulness; Barnay - a hero.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I have not.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could not listen in one sitting! I had to put it down and read a book...then I went back to it and was thrilled that I did. I did not expect the ending!

    Any additional comments?

I had just finished Les Mis, so here I was back in the French Revolution - at the wine shop - different time period! Now I know why it is a classic. I have learned much about life in Paris!

Austen’s classic tale of love and values in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century is her most beloved. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in landed-gentry society. One of the most popular novels of all time. Has been adapted to countless variations for the screen.

    T. Vega says: "Victoria McGee pulls off the tone of the story"
    "Such and easy listen!"

The pride and the prejudice being resolved with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy!

    Which scene was your favorite?

    All of them!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Mr. Darcy's redemption plan for Whitcom

Set in the Parisian underworld and plotted like a detective story, Les Miserables follows Jean Valjean, originally an honest peasant, who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister's starving family. A hardened criminal upon his release, he eventually reforms, becoming a successful industrialist and town mayor. Despite this, he is haunted by an impulsive former crime and is pursued relentlessly by the police inspector Javert.

"Loved the French accent and pronunciations!"

    Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Listening was sooooo much easier than reading the book! If one is going to tackle Les Miserables, I highly recommend listening to it! I even enjoyed the 45 minute description of the sewer system of Paris, and the details of Waterloo!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jean Val Jean was of course the favorite - he is the hero!

    Which scene was your favorite?

I suppose my favorite scene was when Marius figured out who saved him, and he and Cosette went to Jean Val Jean.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Mercy given, victorious, and passed along...

    Any additional comments?

I loved the discourse on priest at the beginning. Others have said he didn't have much to do with the story - but I disagree. He had EVERYTHING to do with the life of Jean Val Jean. He changed the course of history for him, and I am sure for many others!
I loved the voice of Frederick Davidson! Great voices, expression, and pace!
