"Too Dull"
This would probably be better if you read it yourself, rather than an audible. It just didn't capture my interest. I didn't care about the characters and since finishing it, can't remember much about it.
I wouldn't recommend the Audible version because it just didn't grab me, make me want to find out more.
"GREAT book!"
I loved that I honestly felt like I got to know Jane Grey. Her absolutely resolve to stay true to herself, regardless of what that meant for her life on earth. The story is so told so wonderfully in different views of the participants involved. You hate her parents, you root for her at the end, even though you know the outcome of her life. You keep thinking things are actually going to go her way and almost seems shocking to approach the final outcome. I hated the manipulating of the politics involved and she was just caught in the middle of others' ambitions. I would almost be yelling at the people who wronged her, wanting to physically punch them for what they did to her.
I liked the different perspectives of the characters. That's how life truly is. People are thinking they are doing the right thing with little or no conscience care for how it may affect someone else.
The narrators are amazing.
I like the title, it is totally fits her life.
"LOVED it!"
I think this is one of the most interesting, most wonderfully written books I've ever listened to. The subject matter, although might be a bit unsettling for most of us, is handled in such a way that you don't think of the main character as anything but human -- not a freak. I thought the book was so good and I now want to read everything I can find by Jeffrey Eugenides. I had shared with my co-workers that I listening to this book and you could tell the subject matter was a little off-putting, but I was just so enthusiastic about it, they weren't near as skittish when I'd say,
Loved the main character because he is real and honest.
There were parts where I burst out laughing. It was just so well done.
The awkward teenage years, which stink for most of us anyway.
"Excellent! Wonderful!"
I absolutely loved this book! I just finished it and I want to start it all over again. It is full of such profound wisdom and such honest humanity, truly a wonderful work of art. For those who thought it was a little dull - nothing could be further from the truth. Day to day, mundane movements are what make up our lives. This man, although may at first to be simple, is quite thought provoking, kind and is actually what this world needs more of. His
I like that he doesn't try to make his voice sound like a woman's voice when reading a woman's part - truly annoying. I liked the different sound of the voice for the truck driver, rich and smooth. I liked Smithy's voice, steady and reliable.
Absolutely, if I could have!
