Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks.

Couldn't stop listening to first one - it was delicious!
...but this one was a little slow for me and negative at the beginning. The first half was her depression and I almost put it down (like in Twilight book 2 where Bella whines and whines and whines...until I wanted to kill myself or her!) then it picked up. It introduced a new character that I loved and with all the depression I was almost hoping he ended up with her.

I get a little confused with so many periphery characters but it adds to the flavor of the book. I did miss the "aunts" in this book: they do not show up nearly as often as they did in book one and they made me laugh out loud.

I liked it enough not to give up on the series though and I am buying book 3 now. :)

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

What the two books have in common are the crazy birches! The book was good but not great. When I read Gone girl, I hated it but could not stop listening...like a crazy car crash you can't make yourself look away. This book was good but it takes some time (at least for me) to get yourself situated and comfortable because you finally realize it's being narrated from 3 different perspectives/women.

    Spoiler....
There is not a single decent person within the main characters and hard to root for the sadly pathetic main character, it's weird that she is the good guy.

In this dishy, detailed diary of one year in his life, Andy goes out on the town, drops names, hosts a ton of shows, becomes codependent with Real Housewives, makes trouble, calls his mom, drops some more names, and, while searching for love, finds it with a dog. We learn everything from which celebrity peed in her WWHL dressing room to which Housewives are causing trouble and how. Nothing is off limits - including dating.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

What made the experience of listening to Gone Girl the most enjoyable?

Excuse my language, but it was a mind ####! First I hated her, then I hated him, then her again. These people!!!! But honestly I couldn't stop listening...I needed relief, I needed to know how this story ended and though it did not end how I would have wanted...there was poetic satisfying justice. I wish I could discuss details but I don't want to ruin it for you. It was great storytelling...read it, the crazy rollercoaster ride was worth the credit!

I should give it 5 stars because i enjoyed it but then what would I rate The Help, Memoirs of a Geisha, etc. in comparison?

    They deserve each other!

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

to end it? I was so sucked in - could not stop listening - could not wait to see how everything would work out. Then it literally just ended. I thought it was a mistake and listened to the last few minutes 3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything. It's like the author wrote this great story and couldn't decide how to end it, so he just ended it. Urggggg!
I usually try to avoid writing bad reviews, but this one just really bugged me enough to say something. It's such good writing, such interesting flawed characters, to get so vested...how could he not tell us what happened to everyone? I'm so disappointed. :(

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

In its defense, it's Sci-Fi and somehow I missed that. I was looking for something scary to listen with my 18 yr old daughter to get in the October spirit.
That being said, I was sucked in for the first 3/4 of the book, and I really enjoyed the getting there until it got a little too "out there" for me. I loved the characters and I was riveted for most of the book so I'll give it 4 stars to be fair. Overall, entertaining. :)

Lady Aline Marsden was brought up for one reason: to make an advantageous marriage to a member of her own class. Instead, she willingly gave her innocence to John McKenna, a servant on her father’s estate. Their passionate transgression was unforgivable - John was sent away, and Aline was left to live in the countryside - an exile from London society - and he took her love. Now McKenna has made his fortune, and he has returned - more boldly handsome and more mesmerizing than before.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved this one. So many of her lead characters can be so stubborn, this one is no exception but he loves her so intensely I found myself feeling like the scene from "the notebook" when they came together and found tears running down my face.

What other book might you compare Again the Magic to and why?

The last in the Hathaway series - pure joy when they come together.

What about Rosalyn Landor???s performance did you like?

    Always perfect!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Cry in joyous relief.

    Any additional comments?

Try them all!! They make you feel romantic and "gooshy" inside. :)
