"I actually cried when they came together..."
I loved this one. So many of her lead characters can be so stubborn, this one is no exception but he loves her so intensely I found myself feeling like the scene from "the notebook" when they came together and found tears running down my face.
The last in the Hathaway series - pure joy when they come together.
Always perfect!!
Cry in joyous relief.
Try them all!! They make you feel romantic and "gooshy" inside. :)
"Couldn't stop listening to first one but this one"
Couldn't stop listening to first one - it was delicious!
...but this one was a little slow for me and negative at the beginning. The first half was her depression and I almost put it down (like in Twilight book 2 where Bella whines and whines and whines...until I wanted to kill myself or her!) then it picked up. It introduced a new character that I loved and with all the depression I was almost hoping he ended up with her.
I get a little confused with so many periphery characters but it adds to the flavor of the book. I did miss the "aunts" in this book: they do not show up nearly as often as they did in book one and they made me laugh out loud.
I liked it enough not to give up on the series though and I am buying book 3 now. :)
"Not as grand as I had hoped but still very good."
In my mind it was in CinemaScope and somehow could/should have been grander, but still a nice listen.
"One of my favorite Philippa Gregory stories"
I really liked this story. When I was done I re-listened to the White Queen (this is the prequel to the White and the Red Queens) I wished I had read them in order.
"41 hours of my life, and he couldn't decide how..."
to end it? I was so sucked in - could not stop listening - could not wait to see how everything would work out. Then it literally just ended. I thought it was a mistake and listened to the last few minutes 3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything. It's like the author wrote this great story and couldn't decide how to end it, so he just ended it. Urggggg!
I usually try to avoid writing bad reviews, but this one just really bugged me enough to say something. It's such good writing, such interesting flawed characters, to get so vested...how could he not tell us what happened to everyone? I'm so disappointed. :(
"Sucked me in then got a little too Sci-Fi for me"
In its defense, it's Sci-Fi and somehow I missed that. I was looking for something scary to listen with my 18 yr old daughter to get in the October spirit.
That being said, I was sucked in for the first 3/4 of the book, and I really enjoyed the getting there until it got a little too "out there" for me. I loved the characters and I was riveted for most of the book so I'll give it 4 stars to be fair. Overall, entertaining. :)
"First of her books I didn't love."
Loved his character, started to dislike Lora's character. She is portrayed as a saint but really she is selfish and frigid. Another review said "it's all about Lora" and she nailed it.
I LOVE all of her book so far (this one was good but some parts were irritating) - I found myself rolling my eyes at her. But I love all the others so much! They are lovely stories and she makes you fall in love with all her characters and the extra benefit of feeling like you need a cigarette when your done...lol. ;)
Excellent reader.
I have read the Wallflower, Hathaway, and started the Capitol series by Lisa Kleypas - they are all wonderful. Try one of those first, I'm afraid if you start with this one you may not continue with the others and you will really miss out. :)
"I'm hooked!!!"
I'm on a romance kick right now and I've one through some real silly ones, but this series makes me want to keep listening. I just finished the fourth in the series and am really sad to see them go, I will miss the characters...
The behind the curtain scene
It was easy to recognize the different characters.
Laughed out loud, got hot, and was comforted knowing there would be a happy ending.
Read it. :)
"A bit anticlimactic for me!"
I feel bad not giving this at least 4 stars but really i was disappointed in the ending. So far i have read 5 in the series and no doubt i am addicted! BUT i don't read them for serious fiction - i read them between heavier stuff like Pillars of the Earth or The Family when i need easy no brainer sexy stories to enjoy. She always uses the same formula...'im attracted but i can't, ok maybe just a little, no i can't, passion passion passion, no i can't, great sex, maybe, fabulous sex, is it possible - yay big finish - drumroll please...we are in love' - every book the same with great stories and even better sex scenes in between. I'm not complaining, i count on the formula to not stress that there will be a happy ending but this one (for me) ended sucky! We know because we hear Z's thought that he is mad for her but she always has to chase him even at the very end she came to him - where was the "i came across the country looking for you i can't live without you"? i needed the usual big finish. Sad really cause Z is one of my fav characters and i couldn't wait to see how he would "fix" things with her. The way he would pine for her when she was missing and then so easily set her aside when he could have her seemed a contrary to his character and left me dissappointed. I'm addicted though and loving the series anyways. They are cliche cheesy romance novel with a dark twist - they are great!
"Loved Loved Loved this book!"
Fell in LOVE with the stories, the lives, the characters of the book - i found myself sad when it was over not wanting it to end. The readers were perfect. i couldn't stop listening and found myself up at 2:30am listening in bed because i needed to keep listening to what happened next and ended finishing the book in a day listening every free moment i had. Its really a lovely book.
