Malcolm Trevillian says: "An entertaining fiction"
"Funny, funny; Even for an Atheist!"
Would you listen to God Is My Broker again? Why?

Who was your favorite character and why?

No doubt, Brother Ty (Stock Broker)

What about Mark Linn-Baker’s performance did you like?

He did a wonderful job in slipping into each character.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

That an organization is an organization (Church) is an organization and ultimately run by people who can be inclined to look to shortcuts.

    Any additional comments?

Absolutely entertaining and the message about living right is so subtle in terms of being a spiritual that it could be geared toward the fundamentals of organization management.

  • Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Roy Baumeister, John Tierney
    • Narrated By Denis O'Hare
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For years, our concept of the self and well-being has been dominated by the notion of self-esteem, while the old fashioned value of willpower has been disparaged by psychologists who argued that we’re largely driven by unconscious forces beyond our control. In Willpower Baumeister and Tierney turn this misinformation on its head to reveal self-control as arguably the single most powerful indicator of success. Baumeister discovered that willpower actually has a physical basis to it....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Certainly the subject matter can be dry at best but the writing came across as more of a intellectual perspective.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Interesting enough; through listening to this book it soon became obvious that David Allen's book on

What didn’t you like about Denis O'Hare’s performance?

Dry and examples were drawn out.

Was Willpower worth the listening time?

    • By Stuart Woods
    • Narrated By Guerin Barry

Rick Barron, a sharp, capable detective on the Beverly Hills force, finds himself demoted after a run-in with a superior officer, but he soon lands a job other cops only dream about: the security detail for Centrion Pictures, one of the hottest studios in the midst of Hollywood's golden age of the late 1930s.

What made the experience of listening to The Prince of Beverly Hills the most enjoyable?

Excellent job of capturing the glitz, glamour and seedy side (mob inter-twining) of Hollywood during its embryonic period, along with a backdrop of the police culture of the time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Prince of Beverly Hills?

Have you listened to any of Guerin Barry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Probably not one particular moment but the book caught and maintained my interest from the beginning to the end.

  • The Shack

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Wm. Paul Young
    • Narrated By Roger Mueller

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare.

Renato says: "much more than I expected"
    "The Shack"

Fortunately or perhaps fortuitously, I picked up the book without little or no regard for the spiritual aspect that I would be taken and much in the manner of Mac, the main character. You see, I am a retired homicide investigator and vaguely recall hearing of a serial murder case involving kidnappings and murders out of the US Park Properties which intrigued me.
The rest is history and without original motivation, The Shack took me on a spiritual journey that I could have never imagined.
It's occurred to me a number of times that those of faith trying to point non-believers to the beauty of accepting Christ could be better served in using The Shack as a non-religious or intimidating means of opening the doors to the possibilities. Like the author had hoped, this booked being marketed or directed through non traditional religious markets was it's success.
