The Nameless Detective is called upon to find out how rare books and maps are being stolen from an antiquarian bookshop with a faultless alarm system. He goes undercover in the store, only to be foiled when a theft occurs right under his nose. Then, as he ponders the case (while on a date with the lovely Kerry), he’s violently struck from behind by a car that seems bent on driving him off the road. Will Nameless survive this attempt on his life and solve the case?

Would you try another book from Bill Pronzini and/or Nick Sullivan?

The writing was palatable, but just barely. The narration lacked believability.

Would you recommend The Booktaker to your friends? Why or why not?

I don't think you should buy this book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nick Sullivan?

A better narrater might have saved it though.

    Any additional comments?

However, if you are just waiting around and have some credits to throw away, go for it.

For the three years Shadow spent in prison, all he wanted was to get back to the loving arms of his wife and stay out of trouble for the rest of his life. But days before his release, he learns that his wife has been killed in an accident, and his world becomes a colder place.

Joseph says: "Amazing, powerful book about America."

Would you listen to American Gods again? Why?

While I would probably not listen to this book again (simply because of it's use of such profuse foul language), I discovered that i am very fond of Neil Gaiman's writing style and imagination.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I would not say it had me on the edge of my seat, but it did keep me guessing and wanting more.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard any other performances by Mr. Guidall, but I did enjoy it. Not overly fond of his feminine voices though. They all sounded the same. He did a much better job with his men.
