I really enjoy the combination of Freeman & Barrett. This may be my favorite book yet by them. Except for a couple of plots that make you shake your head IE... A girl that would go to a suspected killers house alone; I really enjoyed guessing who did it. The character's were very believable, and I could get into them.
I've listened to Spilled Blood & Burying Place. I went straight into The Bone house because I've been so let down by other writers lately. I'm glad I did.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves people. That said - This was a perfect follow up... I enjoyed getting to know Kolt in Black site - But this may have been the better overall book. I won't go ino much detail. If you haven't read the first - then this is a perfect one-two combination. If you like these - Do yourself a favor and get Sniper Elite one way trip.
Or David Chandler... I hate when someone over does a Super gruff voice for a tough guy - As I do for a high pitched girl. I grinded through one part of the book because I wanted to give it my all + 10 minutes of the second. It had a promising story line - But I didn't like the main characters at all. Maybe if I read it - I would have liked a little more - But I'm not entirely sure. The reader was slow and his voice was not engaging. Don't hate me - But it seems like a book for an older generation that likes it a little bit of rough..I might also understand why it might appeal to female readers. That's not sexist - That's sensitivity I'm talking about. It's returnable - That's how much I didn't like it. I'll take a look - but I have bought quite a few books & this might be number 4 that I am returning.
I was duped... This is science fiction military. UN military forces - ETC. Even if it was something I would have liked - I could barely continue listening the narrator. He wasn't bad - I just couldn't slip into his voice. After 20 minutes of listening - I was done. The story could not hold my attention. I've listened to books outside of my genre, but this is not one of them. Look at the other books bought by people who bought this one. Ghost stories and sci-fi. My Bad.... I saw the carrot of reviews praising it as a Military super book and 5 star ratings, and I bit down. It's pseudo private military something or another.
I hope I see another book soon by this writer.?These writers. And I pray they use the same narrator. This book gave me almost everything I could wish for. A good story (Though it stretches plausibility a little) & An awesome main character in Gil Shannon. I'll say it - I got choked up a bit in this one. It is probably the best military sniper - assassin type book I have listened to since..... Well - The latter half of the Mitch Rapp series - Consent to kill and most of the books that followed... I will probably give it a couple of weeks - But I could easily listen to this book again.
It was pretty darn good. The Narration was great. The story was mostly plausible. To tell you the truth - I was really, really liking three quarters of the book. I was feeling it emotionally and intrigued. The ending didn't (kill) it overall for me. It wasn't bad - It just didn't rock me. I had a better time getting to know Colt in the beginning and listening to the transformation - Then I did listening to the end. High marks for Dalton Fury's 1st fiction Novel. The character and series have promise.
I tried and tried. I don't know what kind of koolaid everyone is drinking. I'd like to give Mark Greaney and the Gray Man a big hug. We have a super sensitive assassin + A super sensitive Mossad agent. How many times in one book can you mention that the Gray man is the most infamous, most deadliest, and the most heard of, and recognizable assassins in the world? Is this guy going to be on the cover of People magazine next. Top 10 available assassins? My mom could find this guy with as many other people who did. I was disappointed with the first Gray man Novel & thought I would never try another one. The 1st book was like a Monty Python movie. The only thing still left on the Gray man was his head & he still won the fight. I saw so many reviews with 5 stars - I had to give this book a shot. I was sure I would at least find this one enjoyable. After 1 full part & half of the second - I deleted it. I couldn't take it anymore. The Enemy and The Game by Tom Wood will have you drooling if you like this stuff. Try Consent to kill by Vince Flynn and you will have to take a cold shower if stuff like this gets people going. What's the saying? If not liking this book is wrong - I don't want to be right.
To try and put it words...... It wasn't enough of any one thing. I see why people liked it - But I don't know why it was loved by most. It was a spy novel without too much mystery. A CIA novel without enough assassinations. A love story that didn't have enough connection. I didn't hate it - But I surely didn't love it...... What can I say?
I liked the first book.... I will in the most manly of terms consider it cute - But I am so far off the center of popular opinion with this one. I won't say it was horrible - I was just so under whelmed that I turned it off and took it off my phone well before the second half finished. There were some technical discrepancies with at least the beliefs of Jehovah's witnesses.... Forced blood would not be considered a sin.... Also they can't tell lies only between members... I didn't ruin anything by revealing that... I'm am stating that as a far removed member. It made me wonder how far off the other facts were.. It just started off slow and never got past slower. I was honestly bored...
For what it's worth...... J
It's o.k.... I love Burke & Collins....... And I love Christian Rummel's narration. So far I have laughed out loud with the sarcasim in each book. I didn't like the end that much.... The middle was o.k.... I'm glad I'm not a parishioner at that church... People keep ending up dead there. I don't know har far the series should go...
I think the only brain hiccup that I had was - Trying to listen to it as a murder mystery. I don't think the intention was to totally fool anyone. It was my first Kent Krueger book - Even though I have had a lot of his books in my wish list... The reviews are very mismatched on his books.... I wouldn't call this the greatest book ever - But I enjoyed it very much... It was a good (Story)
