To get a better idea of my background. I am a working class white male in my forties. I love good fiction, and I love smart books. I have drifted towards a lot of European writers like Reginald Hill, Val McDermid.,Etc....

Six years ago, Jack Till helped Wendy Harper disappear. But now her ex-boyfriend and former business partner, Eric Fuller, is being framed for her presumed murder in an effort to smoke her out, and Till must find her before tango-dancing assassins Paul and Sylvie Turner do. Sorry - But this book was a huge dissapontment. I listened to Sleeping Dogs & even though it is not my norm - I thought it was o.k..... But this was a horible turn for the worse. I tried - I really did. Hated it an hour in. Struggled to the end of the first part. Made it to 3/4 of the 2nd part and couldn't take it. The killer team Man/Woman were soooo unprofessional - You would think anyone could run out and start killing people. The female part was especially aweful. The main character has a daughter with Downs Syndrome. I know there are different levels - But if you make that a main issue - Maybe you shouldn't make her one of the smartest mos intuitive people I know... Give her a claw foot or hand if you want a reason for the mom to leave. Glad I only spent a credit - But I would want that back too. I think writing is a very hard skill & I hate writing bad reviews - But somebody's got to be the voice of reason here. So dramatic on the female side of things - Some guys out there might want to check the expiration date on their man cards if they loved this story line...........

Can I get this off my chest..... I Love Tom Hanks - But really. Robert Langdon.... How about Hugh Jackman - Or a less bloated Russell Crowe...... Now that, that is out of the way. As always - I like to be challenged mentally. This had some concepts and ideas that did make me think. Most though - It was filled with fluff and a lot of misdirection. It's gotta be tough though. How do you really follow up the Davinci Code..... I give him credit for trying.... I liked Angels and Demons much better.......

The narrator was great! - It would have been a much worse review if he had been a bad one.

Jake webber has a good voice overall - When he's speaking normal. The character's he portayed in the story seemed dramatic; with voice's I couldn't relate to, or get in to. I thought the story had a good shot in the beginning - But I was quickly losing interest as it progressed. I was hoping for some revalation at the end that made it worth the time invested in it - Like the "Inside man" movie with Clive Owen... If I used that as my guage - You'd have to dig a hole to find the minus star rating. If you like plain action, with no substance - Then this might be for you.

    Sorry..................................

I think I have to write reviews for the person behind me. I was thinking more Jack Reacher/Joe Pike and Elvis cole type of Characters, and I got more of a Lawrence Sanders Edward X Delaney type story - But not as good. I felt like I was in a whirling time warp. If you took out the reference to a cell phone call, and an Internet reference - I think it should have belonged in a 1950's / 60's type story line.

The who done it part of the story was a little non eventful, and it took a very long time getting there.

It was almost really good. With a writing style that resembled Lawrence Sanders / Val McDermid.

I'm not young and I'm not old - So I will say this with some hesitation. If you are a little older - You may enjoy this more then I did.

If 5 stars is great and 1 is horrible then I guess 3 stars is a better than bad rating. If you like the genre of modern day Mafia and hit men, have an extra credit, and don't want to be challenged. This could be the book for you. I was hoping for better - So I'm not going to give it a great endorsement.

Joshua Jin is an assistant district attorney whose life is in crisis after the death of his teenage daughter and the breakup of his marriage. Now he has been handed an impossible case involving the savage rape of a 13-year-old girl who refuses to talk. The ex-con charged with the crime was arrested on a hunch. The problem? There is no physical evidence. Jin's orders are simple: pitch a sound bite, dump the case, and save his boss the Chinatown vote during a politically charged election year. But Jin refuses to drop the case; even after he discovers that the opposing attorney is a brilliant, high-priced lawyer - and his one-time lover - who wants nothing more than to crush Jin in the courtroom.

I know it's not a catchy headline, but I think it's pretty acurate. I went in with lower expectations, and enjoyed a nice story. It had me wondering and guessing a few times. A couple of nice twists at the end. Sit back - Relax - And let the old man tell you a story. It's a little graphic at times - But not tasteless. It won't knock Grisham off from a top spot (When Grisham was writing great books) But it's a pretty good courtroom drama. Easliy worth a credit - Or the 12.95 price I just saw on here.

Here is the gripping story of a brutally-murdered New York psychiatrist, the ex-cop who must crack the high-profile case, and the only six suspects: the doctor's own patients. It's a blockbuster with twists and turns that will keep you up nights and suspense that "never lags" (The Washington Post). And it is a crowning achievement - by the man who wears the crown as king of the thriller.

Imagine sitting on your grandfather's lap and him reading you a nice bed time (Murder Story) Again I have to give props to a story that can leap a couple of decades and still hold my interest. Marc Vietor is as good as they get. He breathes life into Edward X Delaney, and I feel like I know him. I wish he was my Grandfather. So I don't seem too cold - I barely knew my grandparents =0) It amazes still how detective work was done before ATM camera angles solved every crime. I love the psychology in Lawerence Sander's books. It's a shame that the one bad review is an Oxymoron. Dated and sexist - Uh yeah - If it's dated - It's going to have parts that don't have modern thinking. Here's an update. Slavery was abolished a while ago - But I don't read 'A Time to Kill' and say 'That book was racist' - I just enjoy the story. Jeeeez ussss.

She was gagged. Violated. Tortured. Nailing the killer is priority number one and only the best will do-that means Frank Quinn. And Quinn wouldn't want it any other way. Because he recognizes the victim. Years ago, as a homicide detective, he saved her young life. Now the hunt is on, and deep in his gut, Quinn welcomes it. He knows he's seeing the work of a truly twisted serial killer.

This was a very good detective novel with a good character base. It was a modern book, but there was an old time feel for it. Like listening to a Lawrence Sanders book at times. Very glad I got it & I have to give props to Scott Brick.... I go back and forth with wether I love or hate him, but I have to be honest & say this was one of his best.

I was almost discouraged in the beginning, but then it took me on one of the best pychological roller coaster rides I've ever enjoyed. If you're into a psyhcological mind _ _ _ _. This is a great book. The only disappointing part of this for me, was the ending. Normally I would say - Don't bother. After 20 hours of great - I had to endure 1 hour of over done. Too much of a dramtic ending played by the wife. Too much of a lot of stuff at the end. So this may be the first time I am over-riding my instinct to say "Don't bother" and say instead "It's really good"

Edgar Award nominee Robert Crais’ L.A. Requiem is a gritty, harrowing look into the minds of a serial killer and the men determined to stop him. Elvis Cole and former cop Joe Pike have been partners in a detective agency for 12 years. After an ex-girlfriend of Pike’s disappears, the girl’s father asks them to help the police with the search. When the missing persons case turns into a hunt for a killer who has been stalking victims in Los Angeles, Cole and Pike find themselves battling both a hostile police department and a madman.

I read some of the earlier reviews and shyed away from this one until I ran out of Brian freeman books - So I went backwards to this one and was very glad I did. It was a little graphic & disturbing at times - But I am an adult, so I enjoyed it for what it was. If I wanted G rated - I'd grab one of my kid's books. I love barrett as a narrator and Freeman is always so close to perfect with his books. There is always one or two parts that I shake my head at - But overall - He's pretty darn good. I actually think this book might be one of his best.
