If I understood Mr. King's prologue correctly, this book was originally published after he was asked to remove 400 pages by the publisher. Unfortunately, he decided to put those pages back in for this audio book. At some points it had so much character and place detail I just zoned out and returned after the drone. A few fast forwards helped as well. Mr. King likes detail but for me it was overkill.
Other than the above, I thought the book was good and covered an interesting and scarry subject. He even added a dark force to keep us on our toes.
I also recommend the book Alas, Babylon. The contrast between the two disasters was interesting.
I found this Reacher story very slow. Lots of detail, with a touchy-feely Reacher and very little action. In the end we get Reacher back. In the end, Reacher always comes through!
Great beginning. Great Ending. Thought provoking. Well worth the listen.
Want to change some history? Better think twice!
Thank you Stephen King. Thank you Craig Wasson.
A good listen with a stunning beginning, a sad ending and good stuff in between.
Ok, it's Book 5 and it seems like I've invested a lifetime of listening to this series and frankly I expected some finality. So I hit the last chapter with anticipation and great expectations. But wait... did I miss something? It ends and seems like most everything is still up in the air including the dragons, winter, Arya, Dany, Tyrion, Jamie, Bran and Cersei just to mention a few. Well at least I know what happens to Jon but I expected much more closure.
I see another 50 hour investment when book 6 arrives. Hopefully with some joy at the end.
This is my first book of the Fowl series and I enjoyed it. Never though of Fairies and Pixies with weapons of mass destruction but hey it is the 21st century! It was an easy listen that the whole family can enjoy. Well written with good imaging and stayed on task without a lot of filler fluff. Excellent narration by N. Parker. How do you remember all those voices?
Great for long trips. Wordy, especially near the end but Dan Brown managed to keep my interest most of the time. Very in-depth research was done to write this one. Wish I was in Washington to see some of these places. Some unexpected twists.
