Nine hundred thousand years ago, something annihilated the Amarantin civilization just as it was on the verge of discovering space flight. Now one scientist, Dan Sylveste, will stop at nothing to solve the Amarantin riddle before ancient history repeats itself. With no other resources at his disposal, Sylveste forges a dangerous alliance with the cyborg crew of the starship Nostalgia for Infinity. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Can't answer this without delivering a spoiler.

The once-utopian Chasm City - a domed human settlement on an otherwise inhospitable planet---has been overrun by a virus known as the Melding Plague, capable of infecting any body, organic or computerized. Now, with the entire city corrupted - from the people to the very buildings they inhabit---only the most wretched sort of existence remains. The stakes are raised when Tanner Mirabel's search brings him face to face with a centuries-old atrocity that history would rather forget.

What made the experience of listening to Chasm City the most enjoyable?

I love the intricate stories and themes of Alastair Reynolds. But I could listen to John Lee read the phone book.

What did you like best about this story?

Reynolds has a fantastic imagination. His books start slow, and he throws a lot of exposition at you. But if you stick with him, the effort is worth it.

Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    John Lee is always good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither. But it made me want to continue the series.

    Any additional comments?

    Try "The Prefect." It's superb.
