Best-selling author Susan Wittig Albert is especially beloved for creating herbalist and ex-lawyer China Bayles, hailed by Publishers Weekly as “in a class with lady sleuths V.I. Warshawski and Stephanie Plum.” In Widow’s Tears, China has urgent business to discuss with Ruby, a friend gifted with extrasensory perception. Meeting Ruby at a supposedly haunted house, China soon uncovers a mystery that may be linked to a deadly robbery that very night.

I hope you do not start with this book in the series. Definately not my favorite, maybe because I already know the stories of that hurricane and do not like ghost stories ( really don't) The rest of the series is great.

King Ludwig II ruled Bavaria for 22 years, commissioning extravagant castles throughout his homeland and exhibiting such bizarre behavior that he was eventually declared insane. According to legend, Ludwig had stockpiled a massive cache of gold and jewels that would finance the construction of the largest castle of all time. But in the years since the king's mysterious death, no one has found any evidence of such a trove. Until now.

The reader makes characters sound like Santa Claus or Jewish Rabbi. Horrible. Takes away for adventure factor.
Not very descriptive story. More time was spent on aggravating attempt at suspense than thrill of discovery that treasure hunters feel. I did not feel it. Not Indiana Jones but Paw and Paw Kettle.

After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

Faye Longchamp has lost nearly everything, except for her quick mind and a grim determination to keep her ancestral home, Joyeuse, a moldering plantation. When the property taxes rise beyond her means, Faye sets out to save Joyeuse by digging for artifacts on her property and the surrounding national wildlife refuge and selling them on the black market. A tiny bit of that dead glory would pay a year’s taxes, and a big, valuable chunk of the past would save her home forever. But instead of potsherds and arrowheads, she uncovers a woman’s shattered skull, a Jackie Kennedy-style earring nestled against its cheek bone.

This could have been a darn good book. Loved the identifying corpse via earring and final (but unbelievable) ending. Most of the book was taken up with the mystery of which handsome man gets beautiful but struggling woman. No porn or sex though (good thing) Just too much who is the winner and 'this person could have done it because' speculation.(Anne Perry style speculation filler) Give up more clues and let us figure it out for ourselves.
The reader did 1 good voice. However, she never separated Chapters and there was little separation between characters lines. One would be talking and then all of the sudden a different character was telling their story.
