"Mysterious and thrilling"
My nephews have been living with me since the start of the school year and we`ve listened to so many books together. We`ve really enjoyed similar books like Stanek`s amazing Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches. This is the first one we`ve read by Riordan and we all liked it. It has a similar mysterious and thrilling feel to it as Stanek`s books but more of a mystery than a fantasy.
"3rd of four (so far)"
My nephews and I have listened to over 100 fantasy books together. We listen on the drive to school and back, on the way to shop, at home, every where. Our #1 favorites are Stanek`s KINGDOMS AND THE ELVES OF THE REACHES and IN THE SERVICE OF DRAGONS. We have listened to all three Inheritance books so far too and let me tell you it had been such a long wait after book 2 that I was afraid I had forgotten the plot. Thankfully, Christopher gives a nice review of the previous action which allowed us to plow right in. Christopher`s writing skills have improved and I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. My recommendation is if you haven`t read this and think you want to that you should read it. Also recommend highly any of Stanek`s books.
"Remarkable series from a remarkable author"
It's an utter shame that Robert Stanek's books don't get the recognition or the accolades they so richly deserve. His Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches books are the best series since C. S. Lewis wrote a series of books about a magical world called Narnia. Anyone who loves Narnia or fantasy or adventure is sure to love these books too but you have to hang in there for the complete ride from adventure-filled beginnings (Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches I) to the rousing conclusion in the last book (In the Service of Dragons IV).
"Mutant kids run amuck"
Patterson has a knack for writing thrillers and as a fan of his work, I wanted to love this. However, compared to recent listens like Robert Stanek's wonderful Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches, The Final Warning wasn't as good.
"Setting the standard for military memoirs"
Stormjammers is a bitingly honest assessment of Stanek's experiences during the wars he fought. The prose is clear, candid, and vivid and provides a gut-wrenching, hands-sweating-while-you're-reading feel for what it's like to train and engage in combat as a military flyer.
I was extremely pleased with this extremely well written account of a flyers experiences. Most gripping is Stanek's ability to delve into such deep personal emotions while remaining objective, a rare trait in todays society. I have never read its equal with reguards to accurately depicting the complexity of todays battles against the enemy abroad, but more importantly the enemy which lies within. A must read for anyone considering service, and a good read for the rest of us. I couldn't put it down. Thank You Robert for opening up and sharing your experience with us.
"Outstanding--Intense"
I couldn't put it away. Among the most gripping stories I've "read" in a long time. Fast paced and quite enjoyable. The narration of this book was well done. Can't wait for more from Mr. Stanek.
