The book that has affected my career most positively as a teacher unlike any other book. Warning: starting this book may cause drastic loss in sleep. If you are fascinated with what MAKES talent, virtually un-put-downable!
When you've just finished 'Pillars of the Earth and World without End' the bar is set pretty darn high.
I was not disappointed.
After I reluctantly finished I was probably pumping up too high to get my wife interested in starting. After 1 of her co-workers strongly recommneded it she couldn't put it down. (My mother in-law is reading it for a 2nd time).
In my opinion 'World Without End' equals 'Pillars of the Earth' not only in size but character development and architecture of plot.
This ranks right at the top of the best books I have listened to in years. Everyone I have recommended this book to, loved it also! Hard to believe the original 'Count of Monte Cristo' could be any better.
I really looked forward to this listen but I was somewhat disillusioned with the irritating reader and the unrelateable characters. I think fans of Stephen King's 'Duma Key' would probably love this book.
Only the choices and determination of Charlie Wilson propelled me to continue a plethora of people, places and past events.
In fairness just not my kind of writing or genre.
I found myself zoning out and hitting the playback on every listen. Does have a degree of emotional punch but full of angst.
This is one of those books I base my future reads on. My only critism is the link between the 2 stories is a little weak, time and place only. I would have preferred even more of his great writing be put to better use with a longer account of the independant stroylines into 2 separate books.
I found this story had all the elements for a long car ride; interesting characters, well paced and conceived plot, historical background and at a satisfying length. As a bonus is Sott Brick's reading performance.
In my opinion ties with the best of Connelly's Harry Bosch novels and almost as good as the Lincoln Laywer.
