This is a great experience. The narrator is comfortable with the characters in this second book of the series and it shows in the flow of the conversations. Carey gives really good plot. It is well thought out and of course Vicious Circle would work well as a stand alone read but it is excellent as a continuation. The tone of the book keeps you on the edge of your seat. You want to resolve the situation but you hate to get to the end. I am delaying my "fix" of the next installment until Audiobooks adds more Felix Caster to their collection.
Book 3, Dead Man's Boots by Mike Carey is at its core a re-introduction to all of the characters found in Felix Castor's life, from the two previous books. I am getting the feeling that the scenarios are too pat, too predictible and that we are slowing down while whistling variations of the same ole riff. This will be my last "fix." I'm going to kick this habit!
I looked and sampled sound bytes and read reviews for a least a week before I took a chance on "The Devil You Know." I was more than satified with this purchase, I was enchanted and mesmerized! The British accent of the narrator is "spot on," and his characters all have their own voices. The narration adds to the enjoyment of the experience.
The plot is tight, humourous, and some of the loose ends are wound up. However there is enough interest left for you the listener to want to visit Felix "Fix" Castor's world again!
