When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic....

Bill says: "Not the best audio book in the series"
    "Great, as always..."
    Overall

The story is as riveting as all the other Dresden novels are. The narrator isn't James Marsters, but he still does a marvelous job. We're just used to Harry's voice as being Marsters' is all...

More than anything, Joel wants to be a Rithmatist. Chosen by the Master in a mysterious inception ceremony, Rithmatists have the power to infuse life into two-dimensional figures known as Chalklings. Rithmatists are humanity’s only defense against the Wild Chalklings - merciless creatures that leave mangled corpses in their wake. Having nearly overrun the territory of Nebrask, the Wild Chalklings now threaten all of the American Isles.

This is a typical Sanderson novel; in that it flows well, has an engrossing story and leaves you wanting more. It's shorter than his usual offerings ( I usually buy lengthy books) but since it's Brandon Sanderson, I knew it would be worth it even so. It definitely was.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

This is a fun ride. The story is told from a first-person point-of-view, and it moves fast all the way to the end. Will Wheaton is brilliant as a narrator. Keep churning them out Ernest, and I'll keep buying...

In the present day, as the man-made apocalypse unfolds, three strangers navigate the chaos. Lila, a doctor and an expectant mother, is so shattered by the spread of violence and infection that she continues to plan for her child’s arrival even as society dissolves around her. Kittridge, known to the world as "Last Stand in Denver", has been forced to flee his stronghold and is now on the road, dodging the infected, armed but alone and well aware that a tank of gas will get him only so far. April is a teenager fighting to guide her little brother safely through a landscape of death and ruin.

The story is slow... painfully slow, with so many different threads and characters that its hard to keep up with what's going on. To top it off, it has a habit of jumping back in time at places to add yet another perspective. I'm dropping this series...

  • Hard Magic: Book I of the Grimnoir Chronicles

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

The story was good. It's a fun read. The narrator, on the other hand, makes many of the characters sound like a cross between Forrest Gump and Elmer Fudd. On the whole, though, the story is what counts so I didn't take off any points for the narration.

Bobby Pendragon is a seemingly normal 14-year-old boy. He has a family, a home, and even Marley, his beloved dog. But there is something very special about Bobby: he is going to save the world.

And not just Earth as we know it. Bobby is slowly starting to realize that life in the cosmos isn't quite what he thought it was. And before he can object, he is swept off to an alternate dimension known as Denduron, a territory inhabited by strange beings, ruled by a magical tyrant, and plagued by dangerous revolution.

Bronwyn says: "The Merchant of Death (Unabridged"
    "Not pleased..."
    Overall

Corny, with annoying and stupid characters, had to struggle to finish it. The narrator was whiney (is that a word?) and annoying as well. Sorry, just my opinion, but I could have spent 15 bucks on a better book. Read some Jim Butcher instead...
