"The Best Sookie Stackhouse Story yet!"
This was a GREAT listen - enthralling, exciting, suspenseful, and sexy. Did I mention that this is the best Sookie Stackhouse Story yet?
"Ban Abridgements!"
I don't like abridgements, and this audiobook is one of the reasons why -- the story is so hacked up as to be impossible to follow. Nevada Barr can turn a phrase beutifully and all of that is gone. Hold out for an unabridged version! Don't by this one!
"They're all good ...."
All of the Stephanie Plum stories (and I've listened to them all) are fun, sexy, entertaining, and well worth the time. As a general rule, I don't waste my time abridged books; the plot gets too mangled when events are cut out to save recording time. However, the abridgement of these books is well done, and (mostly) unnoticeable. I recommend all of the Stephanie Plum books, even the abridged ones.
"Well done"
I dislike abridgements, but this one was very well done & is a worthwhile listen. The story is very good -- I'm going to go buy the book now to find out what I've missed!
"Good story, bad abridgement, buy the book instead."
Samantha Eggar does a good job of reading this story. BUT -- this is an abridgement, and badly done, at that. Critical parts of the story are left out, resulting in a lack of continuity and cohesiveness in parts.
This is a very good story, however. The children are really coming into their own as exciting and interesting characters. And of course, the story is full of the wit and excitement we have come to expect of Amelia and Elizabeth Peters. Take my advice and buy the book, and spend an afternoon with a cup of the "genial beverage" and a really good read.
"One of my favorites"
This is one of my favorites of all the Amelia Peabody stories. Barbara Rosenblat is, of course, THE voice of Amelia and brings her to life, where Susan O'Malley could not. The story is also just fun, exciting, and suspenseful. Of course, anyone considering this recording should at least listen to Crocodile on the Sandbank first in order to understand Amelia and Emerson's relationship.
"Great fun"
The Amelia Peabody series of books are witty, intelligent, fun, and tongue-in-cheek. Barbara Rosenblat makes them even more engaging with her wide range of voices and marvelous performance. This is a must-hear.
"Not the best of the series, but necessary"
I've read nearly all of Stephen King's books, including a couple of small and obscure early publications, and I can tell you that this is one of his best stories. Not the best of the Dark Tower series, however, but absolutely necessary to introduce us to Roland and his quest. If you like this story, you will love the rest of the Dark Tower stories.
"Wonderful!"
It is always a delight and special experience to hear an author read his own works. The additional commentary provides the background to make this listening experience even more satisfying.
