"Great story with interesting "science"."
THis is another book that kept my attention riveted from start to end. I wished it had not ended.
"interesting read"
I did not know the history of sulfa and how important it was. I think of penicillin as the first antibiotic and was glad to learn about this important precursor.
"Another wonderful book by Bryce Courtenay"
So sad that there will be no more books from this man. I have so enjoyed all of his narratives. He writes in language that allows me to really "see" the story as well as hear it.
"As good as the first book of the series!"
I waited for this second book in the series and now am waiting for the third. So far, Ken Follett has never disappointed!
"Surprisingly good"
I chose to listen to this due to other reviews that suggested it. I was glad I did. A sweet and well written/told story that warmed my heart!
"Interesting historical information"
This was a very informative and well presented book. There were many things I did not know about Molokai and the exiles there and found it fascinating how things really transpired.
"Good, but ..."
While I enjoyed the story and the narrations, I had some difficulty with the Aspergers references. I have worked with many kids with AS and by that age most are well socialized, if a bit quirky, by his age. He seems more like a person with high functioning autism, which I believe to be a different but similar diagnosis. Also, what mom who is active in working with her son would not have immediately called in an ADA lawyer or advocate?
"Beautiful story"
This was such a beautiful and beautifully done story! I looked forward to listening yet tried to mete it out so that it would not be done too quickly. Unlike many celebrity books, it felt like a real life.
"Music and words.. what could be better!"
I love Jodi Picoult's stories but especially enjoyed this one with the music and singing added. I think that listening to this had to be better than just reading it.
"Surprisingly interesting"
I chose this due to ratings of others and because of people I've known who have dealt with cancer, including my mother. It was a fascinating treatise on cancer. Who knew the topic could be covered so humanely? The human studies were great.. I especially remember the little boy who was "Jimmy" of the Jimmy Fund. Not a Jimmy at all but the child of a Maine farmer. Amazing.
"Enjoyed unexpectedly"
The title mid led my idea of what this would be about so I was delighted when it all together different than I expected. I loved the characters and how they dealt with the feelings of the characters.
