"Hugely Enjoyable"
This is one of those books that holds your interest because you grow to care about the characters and just can't wait to find out what happens to them.
The reader does a marvelous job.
I took it from the car to the house and back to the car and I wish it had gone on longer.
"Completely satisfying"
I have read or listened to all of Tana French's Murder Squad series. They are all wonderful and Broken Harbor is as good as I had hoped it wold be. Enthralling, engaging, riveting, heartbreaking. I took my mp3 everywhere, I couldn't bear to turn it off.
The mystery is well-plotted and complex enough that I was stunned by the resolution. But really, it is French's characters, their emotional depth and richly detailed lives, feelings, relationships, that grab and hold you.
If you enjoy Kate Atkinson's books, you will probably like Tana French's even more.
"Another great listen"
This is the second Jo Nesbo I have listened to and both are wonderful. Smart and well-paced, it really kept my interest. If you like Jo Nesbo you might also like the Roy Grace series by Peter James.
"not too dark, but really grabs you"
I came to this after reading Gone Girl, and while it isn't that good, it is very good--interesting and compelling. There is a mystery which was cleverly plotted and not at all obvious, and then there is also the story of the survivors and their lives and how they develop. The writer doesn't shy away from the psychological thrills. It wasn't too dark, (not even close to some of Nevada Barr's later books) but there were a few disturbing scenes. That said, they didn't last long and the characters were well developed enough that there was always nuance and subtlety. I was always happy to get back in the car and hear more. When I had finished, I kept thinking about the main character. The book stays with you.
"I with there were more"
This is a wonderful series. Great narrative drive within each novel and compelling characters that keep me coming back for each new book.
"compelling, moving, memorable"
This is a very interesting book, well written and fascinating about people and power and politics. I thought about the characters long after I finished listening.
"very enjoyable"
Not deep or terribly compelling, but enjoyable. Likable characters, good plot, good dialogue. A fun series.
"such a disappointment!"
Why do authors read their own work?? I was really looking forward to this book. It is a wonderful story and a great book. Unfortunately, the "performance" is intolerable. I couldn't get past the first hour. Every sentence ends on a down beat and is followed by a too lengthy pause. It is as if she is reading poetry in a late night coffee house.
I wish I had listened to a sample before I wasted a credit.
"everything you want in an audio book"
Fascinating, involving, moving. I got completely caught up in the story. The narrative style is wonderful and imaginative. This book is satisfying from start to finish.
The reader is the best there is. He is without peer.
"some good, some tedious"
Parts of this are interesting and move right along, and other parts, particularly the parts where the narrator is perseverating about women, get extremely tedious. The reader is wonderful. The best reader I've ever heard. I actually chose this book partially because he was the reader.
