I am an avid listener, who started listen to books instead of reading because I could not bring enough books with me on a six month submarine deployment.

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Terry Brooks
    • Narrated By Michael Cumpsty

In barren desert lands and seedy vast underwater cities and in the blackest depths of space...unfolds a tale of good and evil, of myth and magic, of innocence and power. At last the saga that captures the imagination of millions turns back in time to reveal its cloaked origins - the start of a legend - the story of Star Wars.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, I was hoping for some new tidbits of information.

How could the performance have been better?

    The performance was lack luster.

  • Zoo

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By James Patterson, Michael Ledwidge
    • Narrated By Jay Snyder
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

All over the world, brutal attacks are crippling entire cities. Jackson Oz, a young biologist, watches the escalating events with an increasing sense of dread. When he witnesses a coordinated lion ambush in Africa, the enormity of the violence to come becomes terrifyingly clear. With the help of ecologist Chloe Tousignant, Oz races to warn world leaders before it's too late. The attacks are growing in ferocity, cunning, and planning, and soon there will be no place left for humans to hide.

TEDDET says: "Love Patterson, but this was just SILLY"
    "Under Developed Story"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The main character could have had more support. As it was written, the main character was smart than any other character in the book. I have know it all.

Has Zoo turned you off from other books in this genre?

What three words best describe Jay Snyder’s performance?

    He was good

What character would you cut from Zoo?

    The kid.

    Any additional comments?

The story is very under developed, but the character are very real and you will want to know how there story plays out. I cannot recommend this book unless you really have nothing else to read and are about to loose credits.

  • The Way of Kings: Book One of The Stormlight Archive

    • UNABRIDGED (45 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Brandon Sanderson
    • Narrated By Kate Reading, Michael Kramer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Katy Crumpton says: "Very enjoyable (but a slight warning)"
"The foundation of a good story to come."
Where does The Way of Kings rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book ranks in the top 30% of the books that I have read.

What other book might you compare The Way of Kings to and why?

I cannot copare this book to any other, other than to say that this book is unique like all the stories of Sandersons.

What does Kate Reading and Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They both bring subtle inflections the each character. So much so, that you know who is talking even before you pick-up where they left off.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me laugh L.O.L. on many occasions. It also was able to surprise me which only happens every once and a while.

    Any additional comments?

Way of Kings moves slow which is nice, as it gives you time to get familiar with all the P.O.V. that are paralleling in the story. Keep turning pages and by the middle you will have character you feel sorry for, respect, want to be, wish you had as a best friend, and want to die slow. I believe this book is a solid foundation to a great story.

  • Ship of Magic: The Liveship Traders, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (35 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By Robin Hobb
    • Narrated By Anne Flosnik
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships---rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. The fortunes of one of Bingtown's oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia. For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy unjustly denied her---a legacy she will risk anything to reclaim.

    Lorena says: "Something altogether new"
"The story is good, the characters better. G.I.A.L."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

It needed a male narrator for some of the parts.

What did you like best about this story?

The action is evenly mixed between dialog, and the characters adventures.

What didn’t you like about Anne Flosnik’s performance?

She did an excellent job on the female parts.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I do not think so. I would rent it, if I felt it was going to have good Cinematography, and I believable cast.

    Any additional comments?

The action is evenly mixed between dialog, and the characters adventures. The characters are well developed, interesting, and introduced in all the right places. What I like most about the story is the characters are unpredictable but always consistently true to their character.
