For over three decades, the great inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil has been one of the most respected and provocative advocates of the role of technology in our future. In his classic The Age of Spiritual Machines, he argued that computers would soon rival the full range of human intelligence at its best. Now he examines the next step in this inexorable evolutionary process: the union of human and machine.

Sean Gately says: "Great Idea, terribly slow and painful listen"

This could be one of the most important books to be written in the first 10 years of the 21st millennium. It does get technical at times, however, the main points are SO important that it's not vital that one understand all the technical info. These theories give our race (the human race) new hope in many areas that I personally felt hopeless about before hearing the opinions and theories of Dr. Kurzweil. He may not be right about everything, but his track record has been excellent. This is not a "quack." They don't put quacks on the cover of 'TIME'! GET THIS ONE!

299 Days: The Preparation, the first audiobook in the 299 Days series, depicts the inner struggles Grant must face as he exists in a social system he recognizes as unsustainable and on the verge of collapse, but one in which he has built his life around. What begins as a return to his roots, self-sufficiency and independence, becomes a full blown move to prepare for what may come.

Les says: "The most accurate "PREPPER" story ever written!!!"
"Didn't like it ... but influenced by it."

Where does 299 Days rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Either this guy, (the author) is a nut or a visionary. 'Maybe' you owe it to yourself to hear what he has to say and make your own decision. I want to convince myself that he is a "nut" and that we can just roll along living life, and not need to worry about the government destroying the economy. However, now that I have read this, (and I almost wish I hadn't) I've got this little voice telling me to start stock piling food, guns and gold. DAMN! Try to get past the beer drinking and gun obsessiveness. Honestly, I don't know if this is a "good book." (probably not in the classic sense) but it sure managed to unsettle me. Didn't want to read it, but was compelled to read till the end. Not entertaining, more a compulsion.
