"life changing one of the best I read"
It is very rare to find books about this subject and even when I did, I didn't know what to expect.I was in the middle of a will struggle on many areas: some personal and some common to many people like loosing weight.I had some success before reading the book but I felt I exhausted and afraid that I'll break and return to my bad habits. After reading the book I got a boost in all areas I see good results (lost 10 KG) and I stopped feeling bad about the few times I do give in to temptation.I learned many simple techniques for controlling the mind and I also liked the simple and powerful analysis of the way we think and the many paths of the mind leading us to prefer short term satisfaction over our long term goals. (all backed up with many researches and explored in a scientific yet simple approach). This knowledge and techniques made me better understand how I used to think, I am now more immune and by simple change of the way I think I can overcome many temptations.I warmly recommend to everyone.
"life changing, Garry please write more."
It is hard to find books on the subject of
"not much added value from the book."
I bought the book mainly because of the title and expected a practical discussion about sex in marriage and maybe some advice of how to increase the frequency of it.Instead I felt I'm getting some philosophy, many quotes from the bible but too little practice.Garry is a very good author, I listened to many of his books and I have very high expectations when I start listening to a new book. This book did not meet them and I do not recommend it,
"Really helpful and practiacl"
I listened to it a while ago and I don't remember the specific techniques I liked.I do however remember that I was fascinated by every word and I felt like I never want the book to end.It talks mainly about listening which is something that I'd like to do more and better in life and in my marriage. It shows many examples of how conflicts that at first look unresolveable are being resolved by having the couple listen to each other.I also liked that the book is not repeating the well known principals of the 5 love languages (tough I think they are mentioned) but it gives new insights from totally new perspective, overall it is a must for everyone who likes to hear more of Garry Chapman.
"I forced myself to hear and stoppen in the middle"
The book is composed of isolated subjects and is not developing ideas slowly like I would expect from a parenting book. The lack of overall story got me lost and I quit in the middle.
The English was also bit hard for me.
"goes from good to great."
I enjoyed the first hour or so but felt it was little trivial and not really educating.
The rest of the book far exceeded my expectations and the ending left me full of many useful insights.
I learnt a few nontrivial facts about parenting and I liked the examples though I think there should have been more examples.
Inspired by the book I got the courage to do something I avoided for a few months as I feared of hurting my child: I decided to teach my one and half year old kid to fall a sleep without my presence. As I kept my cool and showed a lot of empathy during the process I felt we got connected in a way we didn't experience before.
I was able to get my child to respect and try hard to achieve the task instead of having to cry for a few days until she has no option but to comply with the new situation.
The book made me more aware of my needs as a person and feel good about fulfilling my needs even on expense of my family knowing that I will take care of them better once I feel good.
"great book, simple yet powerful"
I expected very little having bad experience with long books tending to extend on minor subjects and bore me on the way. with this book, however I am listening to every word and find myself rewinding once in a while to make sure I got the point correctly. The book is full of useful techniques and interesting insights about human communication.I also liked the section in the book listing types of people to stay away from and how to identify you are dealing with this type of person.
"little bit long and technical but very inspiring."
I was amazed on how much there is to write about importance of physical activity and since I read the book I do much more of it. I got lost in many of the professional terms and feel there are too few examples of real stories.
in spite of that the book is highly recommended and will give deep insights that you would not expect to find in book on physical activity.
"Exactly the same"
The 5 love languages is a great book and when I bought this one I expected more examples of the same spirit but I got exactly the same stories and I feel I hear the 5 love languages book again. Gary Chapman is an excellent writer and and I recommend warmly about the 5 love languages that e wrote.
