The combination of fact and fiction kept my attention throughout.
The author (can you believe it was Glenn Beck) wove together the essentials of any good book, romance, intrigue and familial conflict. No humor, of course, but none was required.
I haven't heard this narrator before, so I was prepared to be put off, but another surprise, he was great. He seemed involved in the telling of the story and never sounded canned. Congrats to James Daniel!
I should have cried, but it makes me stand a little straighter, take more seriously the small things I can do and to feel a little less helpless in this America that has already destroyed 70% of what I trusted and loved about our country.
Thank you Glenn for bringing to life the real potential if all Americans do not take more seriously their role in sustaining our Constitutional Rights. You are a God gifted man and a man given a mission for these times. You have brought it down to common man to really
My family thought I had just disappeared for a week inside the world of Robert McCammon. Couldn't put it down. Make sure you are on vacation before starting this one because if not work somewhere will be left undone. This story sends you twisting and turning every moment, captured completely by the desire to see the end of it, but dreading to see it end because it has so captured your imagination. Read it at your own peril. I am enraptured now and must read the series.
The narrator played an enormous part in my delight over this book. He brought each character alive with his creative genius and use of dialects, etc. Between the narrator and the genius of the author in creating word pictures of the characters, i thought I was listening to a movie.
Well, I just finished it and it was worth being patient. The beginning was a bit confusing and then slow moving, but I really like all of the details, much like a John Grisham novel. The characters were well developed and in the middle it seemed to pick up speed and kind of skipped over details you might like to hear, only to be clearly expounded on at the end. So, be patient, great read!
If you have never listed to a book on the Fae, this is a good beginning. You will purchase the whole series, however, it is very addictive. The Karen Moning series should be your next "listen" if you like this book.
What a cast of narrators ... it brings broadway to you ... entertainment in your pocket.
I read this many years ago and was so pleasantly surprised to find it still so intriguing and captivating. It's so nice to listen to a classic, without the violence, sexual perversion and most especially filthy language. You can listen to it anywhere and not feel like "ops ... should have turned it off before this scene came up". Thanks Audible for including so many great classics.
Was it the story or the story tellers that drew you in and wouldn't let you go until the last word was spoken and/or written? It doesn't really matter because the end result was the same, you couldn't stop listening. Each book was more compelling than the previous one. Buy all five and go on vacation ... sit by the ocean and just let the story play out. But be sure you have all five because when the book ends you will need to have the next one right there to continue the story. You might find yourself in a "no wi-fi" zone and have to suffer until you can get the next book, if you don't have all five just waiting to be experienced.
