For over a century, the New Hope Island vanishing has tantalized the world. How did 150 people disappear from a lonely Hebridean island, leaving no trace and no clues? Media magnate Alexander McIntyre decides to solve the mystery, and gathers a team of experts to mount an expedition to the island. He hopes running the story as a rolling exclusive will revive the fortunes of his flagship news-stand title. He hopes to find conclusive answers to questions that have teased a curious world for decades. And he wants his own secret theory triumphantly vindicated.

What did you love best about The Colony?

Expertly rendered ghost story thriller. I got burned out on ghost stories many years ago. However, this is not your typical ghost story. It is kind of a cross between a Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child novel and and an Ira Levin tale.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Colony?

The writer kept the suspense going right up to an awesome finale. It is difficult for a writer to create this kind of suspense and pull off a finale that is not anti climatic but F. G. Cottam pulled it off.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    It was evenly successful.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

I am looking forward to listening to more books by this author. I am hoping Audible will offer all of his books in this genre.

Lady Georgiana Rannoch has once again been called into service by Her Majesty the Queen. This time she's sent to Nice on a secret assignment that's nothing to sneeze at: recover the Queen's stolen snuff box. As much of an honor as it is to be trusted by Her Majesty, an even greater honor awaits Georgie in Nice - as Coco Chanel herself asks Georgie to model her latest fashion. But when a necklace belonging to the Queen is stolen on the catwalk, Georgie has to find two priceless items-and solve a murder. How's a girl to find any time to go to the casino?

Excellent narration, hilarious characters and an almost, if not quite, intriguing mystery. Still - any farce that features successfully the Prince of Wales, Coco Chanel, Georgie's cockney grandfather as supporting characters gets a star in my book. The "fashion show" was a hoot.

Rhys Bowen channels P. G. Wodehouse and Bram Stoker in a marvelous screwball mystery that still has me laughing. Even the brief book description accompanying this audiobook had me smiling. Great idea for an entry in the series and Bowen delivers.

In war-torn Yugoslavia, a beautiful young filmmaker and photographer - a veritable hero to her people - and a German officer have been brutally murdered. Assigned to the case is military intelligence officer Captain Gregor Reinhardt. Already haunted by his wartime actions and the mistakes he's made off the battlefield, he soon finds that his investigation may be more than just a murder, and that the late Yugoslavian heroine may have been much more brilliant - and treacherous - than anyone knew.

Fascinating new series: The author uses his own experiences to craft a compelling story of a conflicted German officer serving in Yugoslavia during the height of Axis power. My only complaint is the lack of interesting female characters. The one major female character is dead! I plan to purchase the next audiobook in the series, anyway.

Thomas De Quincey, infamous for his memoir "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater", is the major suspect in a series of ferocious mass murders identical to ones that terrorized London 43 years earlier. The blueprint for the killings seems to be De Quincey's essay "On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts". Desperate to clear his name but crippled by opium addiction, De Quincey is aided by his devoted daughter, Emily, and a pair of determined Scotland Yard detectives.

Scrupulous research combined with fascinating storytelling triumphs here. Fast paced too - never a dull moment. I will definitely buy the next in the series soon. What a great new series!!

How to you extort $600,000 from a dying man? Someone had done it very quietly and skilfully to the husband of Travis McGee's ex-girlfriend. McGee flies to Chicago to help untangle the mess and discovers that, although Dr. Fortner Geis had led an exemplary life, there were those who'd take advantage of one "indiscretion" and bring down the whole family. McGee also discovers he likes a few members of the family far too much to let that happen....

Many of the novels in this series are excellent. This one may be the author's best. John D. MacDonald had a unique and very colorful view of life. A raving individualist and environmentalist, he was also a master storyteller.

I had been looking for an author similar to Charles Todd. Many that I tried had a heavy romance aspect which is not my thing. Others were historically inaccurate, didn't ring true, or were boring. Barbara Cleverly is a spellbinding storyteller. Her grasp of time and place is assured and accurate. The Damascened Blade is highly recommended - a fabulous tale.
