another excellent book from HH the Dalai Lama/ a much needed discussion on world religions and the need for them to join together rather than be at odds with each other/
however, where was the director to assist Richard Gere--he mangles too many Indian names and places/ his reading is--- alright but not inspiring/ and he doesn't mutilate too often nor too badly/
thus it is not too painful to listen and i do enjoy it and am learning/
excellent important book and the narrator fits the book quite well---until he comes to pronounce Chinese names----he did fine in " other parts of the world" --- why didn't his director help him pronounce Chinese city names/
it really makes one go ouch when listening/
but a fine book nevertheless/
the fact that i had the book and could READ the missing 6 pages--the authors vital note/
i bought this almost 10 years ago and mentioned the missing parts to both audible as well as the publisher--high brow audio/ and what did they do--nothing/ without the note you are all missing a most important part/ i advise you to look at the book before you begin to listen/
one of the best/
great ending--lets you add in your own thoughts as to what happened/
excellent novel of south asia/ good film by mira nair too/ HOWEVER be aware that 5-8 minutes of this audio are missing from the audiobook--the last part of chapter/track 3/like " life of pi' which is also missing a most significant part/
now we must await the final volume in this wonderful panorama of a novel by Amitav Ghosh/
can be read without having read the "sea of poppies' but best to read that one first/
having followed ram dass for almost half a century, this book is a must. however i would rather have found the book as the narrator is bad~~he mangles many of the indian terms, city names as well as people's names~~~~. In addition it felt to me that he was just reading and did not himself understand what he was reading. Oh well....If the book is close by i would recommend you buy it instead.
An excellent~~superb book and the narrator is one of the best.
That said i must also inform all those who purchased this title in the few months after it came out in october to ask audible for the version which is now available and is 9 hours 55 minutes and NOT the 8 hour 55 minute one[ only just taken down last week] which is missing part 4 of the book!!!
without the ending one is missing much of the story and would have difficulties continuing with the quartet--which i strongly recommend.
superb & excellent. like all of naxos audios this is well done and a fine listen. the japanese actors make it even better.
