Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice - until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone. That same night, an alchemist's apprentice, Will, bungles an important delivery. He accidentally switches a box containing the most powerful magic in the world with one containing something decidedly less remarkable. Will's mistake has tremendous consequences for Liesl and Po....

I listened to the audiobook and Jim Dale did an EXCELLENT job. His voice was perfect for the novel and all the accents and inflections were spot on. I especially love that he did Po's voice with a Scottish accent. 5/5 stars for the narration.

The story itself was really lovely and magical and I enjoyed it all the more with Jim Dale's excellent performance. It has a very Harry Potter-ish feel to it, which I really like. But besides Po, the characters were too one-dimensional. 4/5 for the story.

I picked this book as my "book talk" book for an assignment for one of my library school classes. I did my book talk without reading the entire thing (which we're not supposed to do to) but was just not into it when I was listening/reading this book...

It was not because the book wasn't good, but I was just not in the mood for it. I think I'm just done with vampires and YA paranormal novels--not that I was that into them to begin with. It's a good story though--I can see a lot of teen readers really getting into it. Lots of action and fight scenes, a kick-ass heroine, good world building. It just want for me personally.

I gotta mention though that the narrator for the audiobook, Therese Plummer, was EXCELLENT. She really took on the persona of Allison, which is great because it's in first person POV. She also did a great job with the voices of the different characters and overall brought the story to life. I'll definitely look for more books she narrated. I'm giving 5/5 stars on her narration alone.

Luc's entire future is planned out - but there is one very sexy obstacle in his path: Alyssa, a strip club owner with whom Luc recently shared one night of wild abandon. It left Luc terrified by his loss of self-control - and Alyssa desperate for more. But Luc is not the only man desperate to have Alyssa.... And that's just one of her secrets - secrets as dark and mysterious and delicious as her fantasies.

I wasn't a big fan of Lexi Maynard's narration but it grew on me. I thought she sounded too young (too YA-sounding for this type of novel) and she made all the female characters' voice too high and ditzy-ish.

I would've preferred Clarissa Knightly or Jill Redfield--from all the "more steamier" romances I've listened to so far, they do the best narration for these type of novels.

I've been wanting to check out this series because I heard great things about the author. But since menage and hardcore BDSM are not my cup of tea, I skipped the first 2 books in the series. When I heard this one featured a monogamous couple, I picked it up. It can be read as a standalone.

The book overall was a good read (or in this case, listen). I really liked Alyssa's character and how independent, self-sufficient and strong she was. As for Luc, his jealously, how he judged Alyssa because of her profession (she's a stripper) and his unwavering belief that Alyssa was having an affair with her bodyguard Tyler got old really fast. I was annoyed by him for most of the book and I wish he groveled more in the end.

As for the "mystery" part, I was easy to figure out early on. But, jeez, there were so many scums were after Alyssa! I felt really bad for her--the author really made her suffer in this novel with emotionally with Luc's judgmental words and actions and with all the bad men after her. There was an almost rape scene that was pretty graphic so be warned if you're the type to avoid books with that.

I'm considering getting the other book in the series with a monogamous couple, Mine to Hold, which is Tyler's book.

A girl who believes trust can be misplaced, promises are made to be broken, and loyalty is an illusion. A boy who believes truth is relative, lies can mask unbearable pain, and guilt is eternal. Will what they find in each other validate their conclusions, or disprove them all?

What would have made Easy better?

    If someone else narrated.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Lucas/Landon

What didn’t you like about Tara Sands’s performance?

Tara Sands spoke too slow (I had to speed up her voice) and she sucks with voices--she cannot do male voices and almost all of the female voices sounded ditzy blondes. When not doing voices, she spoke a like a robot.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Easy?

None comes to mind. All the scenes moved the story.
