"I wanted to love this book."
I got this book because of the good ratings. However the reviews are mixed. This is a young ADULT novel. The premise is new and the plot was good.Things did wrap up a little too easy and after the inital issue was taken care of the book still had another hour or so that was kinda slow. Comments have been made about the sex and anti-marriage theme.Katsa has been controlled all her life because of her "grace".She is finally free and does not want to marry but she does fall in love and is committed to Po.AFTER they fall in love they do have sex, which is MOSTLY only implied. This book has several violent episodes.Again---young ADULT.
I did not care for the full cast audio, one good female narrator would have been better.Reason--Katsa is the main player, she is female, most of the thoughts and feelings were hers. The music was distracting and I jumped almost every time it came on.
"Female mystery solving park ranger !?"
This was my first Anna Pigeon Novel and I really enjoyed it.I gave this book 5 stars because it was something new(female mystery solving park ranger),I was never bored with it and the narrator was great!
This is a series with many books!Audible does not have them numbered,so if you want them in order check out the Nevada Barr website
"No more Greywalker for me."
I will not waste any more time, money or credits on this series.2 stars for the whole Greywalker idea and for the fact that Harper got a better BF.
"BEST 4.99$ I EVER SPENT!!!!"
Loved this book!
If your old enough to remember the movie Red Dawn and liked it... you should really enjoy this.If your too young for that then Hunger Games fans should enjoy also.
2 Warnings 1-This is YA (PG13 for violence/teen drama) 2-This book does leave you hanging(1st in 7-8 books)
++This book is currently being made into a movie.
"Honest review----To the best of my ability"
To those of you thinking of getting this book---
DO NOT get this book if...
you want Scifi/Fantasy.It is not SF/F.
you dont want to hear sex.Described & Implied.
OR will be very disturbed by rape & violence.
YOUVE BEEN WARNED!
This is a long book. Its sets the stage for many to follow.I have read all but the last 2.They are all GREAT and BRUTAL.After listening to Outlander I realize what a great writer DG is and what a great narrator DP is.You meet characters in this book that come back in book 2,3,4 ect.Did she think the whole thing out before she wrote? She does describe alot, goes into detail of life in the 1700s.That was a violent time in history (rape, violence, sickness, murder, superstition, highlander politics...this book has all these) .BUT all and all THIS IS A HISTORICAL ROMANCE! Jamie and Claire.Claire and Jamie. WHAT they do and give up to be together! If this is your kind of book,Youll be hooked!
"I dont know why I waited"
Being a fan of Charlaine Harris,I have READ Sookie,Lily and Harper.I never had must interest in Aurora Teagarden and I dont know why. When this book when on sale I took the chance and Im sooooo glad I did. This book is ....if a book can be CUTE.
No complex plot just fun.Auroras thoughts on herself and others are hilarious. The narrator was
great!Therese Plummer is Aurora Teagarden. This book does not inspire deep reflection or life changing revelation it is entertainment only and it does that well.
My only wish is that Audible would have a sale such as 2 BOOKS IN A SERIES FOR 1 CREDIT--HINT
"Gotta start somewhere........."
This book was in my wish list,it is 2 credits so I let it sit there. It went on sale so I got it for 5$.Im glad I waited(saved my credits)! It was OK.Its the first book in the Greywalker series and is dedicated to alot of setup for that series. How Harper became a Greywalker, what is a Greywalker, what she can and cannot do.I love books in a series, I love getting to know the characters so I will at some point get book 2.I hope its better now that the ground work is laid.
Now, I hate to pick on the narration but this is the MAIN problem with this book. The supporting casts voices were bad.Harper was fine. The rest either sounded like someone with the croup or any one of the seven dwarfs( sleepy, dopey, ect)I know the narrator changes tone so the listner can distinguish characters but some of these were really bad.
"What can you say thats not been said......."
I read this book last summer, its one of those books that you get from the library and you love it so much you dont want to return it.When it went on sale last week I jumped on the chance to listen to it.It was great. At first the narrators voice seemed alittle too mature to be Katniss but I got used to it.Ive also read book 2 and am impatiently waiting on 3.SPOILER--hope she ends up with Peeta!
"Good use of a credit? Yes!"
Like most of us I try to use my credits wisely.I check out reviews from several sites before I pick a book. Most of the reviews on Audible are about not only the book but also the narration. If the reviewers hate the narration it affects the review of the book.I think that has happened with this book.I liked the narrator. Her voice was clear and with the exception of 1 character (a 6yo boy) the male roles did not sound ridiculous---always a plus! Some reviews stated that Mary was selfish, she was---this is HER STORY!Shes a single minded anti-hero.Her main goals---avoid zombies, get to the ocean alive and bite free.Drags alittle during travel but never enough to lose interest.Book 2 comes out in March so this book stops short of a complete ending for Mary.
"Different from Kushiel"
This was my first audiobook so I wanted to pick something I knew I would like.Well, I did and I didnt. This book is nothing like the Kushiel books,if thats what your looking for..dont get this book.To me this book is total drama with very little adventure.I liked the readers voice but I started wishing she would just read and not change tone for the male roles. The f word was used overmuch.Loup had little emotion, when her love done her wrong you got nothing...no anger just "I understand".The description of the book is slightly misleading but the story was good and very different. If a Santa Olivia 2 comes out I will want to read it just to see what happens next.
