Absolutely hated it. Not the performance was good, and the writing isn't bad, but the premise really, really stinks. We are to understand that the MIXED_RACE decendants of space age share-croppers live a hopeless, wretched squallid, existence on a panet so fertize that the forest has to be regularly burned, because the"Eurt-Mun do want to buy the moon-shine no-moe". Yikes......the whole world is theirs! I will not be buying book 2.
I kept think of the line in "The Caine Munity"....."Constructive Loyalty". I frankly didn't see much of it. That being said, the author does a fine job of researching America's flaws without regard to any factor other than socioeconomic class. I do think America has to be reminded of its founding vision, but a diatribe of its faults doesn't necessarily do that.
It's like military Sci-Fi (a Space Opera), but in the present. I like it.
BTW- I'm rating this and book two as one because... one review is enough. The story is very complex and evolving.. The story focuses around not more than (two) characters. There is an underlying statement of truth (inn this case, I'm often reminded of the Parable of the Two Sons).
I'm a fan of Ian Banks Culture series, but I think this one needed some more editing. The author clearly had the story well laid out in his head, but often speeds away from the listener.
Let me put it this way - you might as well buy book eight now because if you've listened to all 7 books, there is no way in Hell that you aren't listening to Book 8. That said, book 7 is really good. It just that you (like STEN) is left feeling a little empty. Let's just hope that Book 8 will give us all the strength to endure.

The Story, Writing, and Presentation certainly bought deserve a 5 star rating; but the book has just too many good stories packed into one book. I counted at least three separate story lines that could have been worked up into a stand-alone novel.
1)“What on Earth Are People For”
2) “The Black Angel of the Caucasuses ”
3)“The adventures of Terri –Terri –Terri the Witch”
The author does come full circle with the 1st one, but leaves the other two incomplete. It’s why buffets never measure up to a set meal.
My first impression was fairly negative and I stopped listening ½way through in a 'huff';, to let my feelings be known in a blistering review. But, because of a "System Interruption", I couldn't post my review. So I thought," What the hell, I'll listen to some more", and it got better.
The story was very original and the subject is extremely important.
The narrator does a great job.
I did have an extreme negative reaction to the book. But, after I gave it some thought I decided that the problem was likely because of the lack of "real" world experience of the author. The characters' reactions were those of young adults ( a little annoying to someone who isn't). If the author is aiming for the movie-going demographic, I have only one final comment:..................BULLSEYE!!
Very satisfying series finale. Would definitely recommend the series. I wish we would have gotten more information about what Marvin really is.
The author has create a viable alternate universe. I can't believe he's just going to walk away from it.
I don't know why this was even considered a relevant edition to the series. It had almost none of the past/future stress of 1st two books. Guidall does a great job as always, but I was frankly waiting for this to end.
If the subsequent books are like this, I won't be listening anymore (I gave the 1st two books 5 stars).
I did like the description of the explosion.
It was like re-hashing old themes
I was happy it ended and think I actually zoned-out during the climax; but, I was able to infer what happened so I didn't bother with the re-play.
