Includes the Mysteries of Light! For many Christians the rosary is a signifcant pathway to prayer and intimacy with God. Indeed, the rosary not only introduces us to the mysteries (life events) of Christ's life, but into the living mystery of Christ himself. In this recording, the St. Anthony Messenger Press staff prays the joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous mysteries of the rosary as an aid for your prayer. Each mystery begins with a Scripture verse and/or meditation.

This rendition of the Rosary lacks an understanding of the faith as a battle amidst God, the Devil, the world, and the individual person praying the Rosary. It does not contain the Fatima prayer, "O, My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell; lead us and all souls into Heaven, especially those most in need of Your mercy!" This Rosary, seems to deposit an idea of universal salvation e.g. there are no calls for the conversion of poor sinners. Our King and Queen, are put on equal footing at various times with those who are praying this Rosary.

This rendition of the Rosary is only helpful in providing a backdrop of the basic prayers of the Holy Rosary, in conclusion the meditations are not theologically, spiritually, or psychologically correct! Theme music excepted as a marker for the beginning of the sets of meditations [Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries] is totally lacking. The Luminous Mysteries are tagged on at the end of this recording and not positioned after the Joyful Mysteries as a historical sequence of events suggests.

True Catholics, should look for an Audio-Rosary elsewhere, and pray that Audible will soon add another richer rendition of the Rosary that is fully compatible with the traditional faith of the Church!

This audio book is a mixture of very good and highly deficient. The men and women chosen to read Volume 18: Deuterocanonicals are excellent, leaving nothing to be desired. The translation relies on a too simplified form of English. It does not pull one into the text, in the same way as if one were to listen, to these same books read from the RSV or the NJB. The introductions to the books are way too short to be meaningful and are based on 19th century German biblical criticism, and therefore, have little relevance for a traditional believer.

The books of Judith and Esther were done particularly well. The material that the Greek version of Esther contains that is missing, from the Hebrew version was handled advantageously, the entire book was translated from the Greek, however, the extra material contained in the Greek version of Daniel was read by itself. The entire book should have been translated from the Greek, as was the case with Esther. So, the listener cannot presently see, how these detached works fit in with the entire book of Daniel. It is difficult to listen to chapters from a book that have been detached from their original location, no doubt much of their power is lost, because of this unnatural situation.

Some of the theology contained in these books seems strange, and I will have too compare these things in other more reliable translations, as this translation seems less dependable, than most others, I have come across.

I recommend, that one download this audio book in "Enhanced Format" as the audio has an objectionable hum after the introduction. The "Enhanced format" takes care of this defect for the most part, but it will still be there.

  • The Modern Scholar: Faith and Reason: The Philosophy of Religion

Through the ages, mankind has pursued questions of faith in something beyond the world of ordinary experience. Is there a God? How can we explain the presence of evil? Do humans, or human souls, live on after death? Is there a hell? The following lectures examine these eternal questions and present the most compelling arguments for and against God's existence, the seeming conflicts between religion and science, and the different truth-claims of the world's most popular religions.

I am a Catholic who sincerely believes that there is no salvation outside the, "One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church". I endeavor to save souls by converting as many people as possible to the one true faith. I have found through experience that philosophical/historical argument is the most effective way to do this.

In this work the study of the different religions including atheism has been invaluable to the success of my missionary work. Obviously, the only people I have ever converted were sincere in their quest to find know, and love the truth. These people are lovers of wisdom not of political correctness. I want to understand Atheism, and different world religions so that I will understand what is good and bad about them, so that I will be more effective in my missionary work.

Peter Kreeft, however; is not primarily concerned with the truth in his analysis of different religions such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism as well as the several others he analyzes, as he is very superficial and politically correct.

Some of my best friends are atheists and by questioning them for their reason for being atheists I have found three primary reasons: one belief in God would require a change in life style that they do not want to make, two they note that many believers are hypocrites and seem to be impervious to the grace of God, three for many, their understanding of religion is that of a child whilst they are grown-ups. I have been astounded by several educated atheists who have tried to disprove a notion of God or religion that is suitable for a seven year old. These people will attempt to attack the Catholic religion by discrediting an infantile understanding of God and the Church.

By the way Kreeft's final conclusion is that all religions are the same, he seems to suggest, however; that atheism is an inferior position even though he rightly points out that many forms of Buddhism are atheistic and that Confucianism is agnostic.

  • God's Comfort: Bible Passages Which Bring Strength and Hope in Times of Suffering

In times of illness, anxiety, or sorrow, when hope is most elusive, the Bible stands as a beacon of eternal solace and strength. There is much to be learned about suffering, its meaning and its impermanence, from both Testaments. Selections from Romans, Job, and Psalms are among the many passages that will help you understand and transcend pain by reaffirming God's purpose and fortifying your faith when it is most severely challenged.

The scriptures chosen for this audio book were intelligently chosen read and introduced. The familiar RSV translation was employed throughout. As a Catholic I am familiar with all the bible passages recited herein from the Mass and devotional literature, however I criticize the producers for not providing a pdf file with the citations (i.e. Psalm 22) of the passages recited therein for future reference, as the are not given in this audio book.

In the indulgence of their egotistical ambitions and reckless whims, kings, conquerors and dictators have frequently presented a spectacle, sometimes comic but more often tragic in its results, that the authors have tried to bring back to life in this book. Here are living biographies of twenty famous rulers including: King Solomon, Caesar, Ivan the Terrible and more.

This audio book is blank after 7:22:09 thus you will totally miss out on Stalin; Mussolini; and Hitler. The biography of Kaiser Wilhelm II is cut short. Having just downloaded the book and done some spot listening when I discovered the above serious flaw; I can say the biographies are well done even though they are not above criticism. The interpretations of the authors are by no means infallible and in some instances have much to be desired.
